Remember that one scene in Tarzan where the leopard snarls at him, and he's such a crazy fearless wild M A D L A D that he just snarls back? I always thought that was the coolest thing.

Also, technical note on Samus' weaponry in this comic: I decided to color her beam as yellow back on page 8, because that's her power beam color, what she usually uses, and what most fans would be expecting to see. However, for the fights, I found that I really liked green light for the sudden, dramatic tone shift. The green corresponds with Prime 3's nova beam, or, (more relevantly since it's the most recent chronologically,) Super Metroid's plasma beam. The beam color didn't switch from yellow to green until she first clearly saw the xenos on page 28, so let's just say she manually switched from power to plasma when she saw what she was dealing with. (I don't want to go back and recolor all the yellow to green. Besides, I like the tone shift.)

As for the functionality of the plasma beam: I'm gonna say it emits a spray of ultraheated matter, focused and accelerated into a narrow jet by magnetic coils in the arm cannon's barrel. The jet contains enough raw heat energy to quickly vaporize a 5-centimeter circle of matter to a depth of about a centimeter. This injury would not be immediately deadly on its own, as it instantly cauterizes and doesn't go very deep, but it also serves to completely cook the internal organs directly beneath, resulting in immediate, widespread cell death and loss of functionality. Any creature weaker than a rhinoceros would thus be killed in a single shot. I don't know why a plasma beam would be green. Maybe the ultraheated gas is charged boron or something.

The plasma beam's nature dictates the following inconveniences: Firstly, it is a short-range weapon that dissipates harmlessly into the air past about 10 meters. Secondly, it has poor penetrating capabilities (okay, that's opposite of what it does in Super Metroid, but science says so). Thirdly, it catches things on fire, and anything that can explode WILL explode. In the Alien movies, flame was shown to be moderately-ish effective on xenos, so I think the plasma beam is still the best choice for this fight. (I sort of resent how effective bullets were so I'm ignoring them.)

...There's really no reason you guys need to know all that. But I have a very technical brain up in my head, and I like to record my very technical headcanons for posterity. So yeah.
