Not by much. She's just lucky it hit the side of her head instead of the top, so that gravity will make it run off instead of stay in place.
And yeah, Metroid could definitely use some melee. I don't know how you'd control it smoothly in a game, but it always bugged me that you lug around spiky, super-strong power armor and never get a chance to really use it.
