I have two pictures open at the same time. The painting to the left- and the reference pictures on the right.

I wish I'm able to put the reference pictures on the right and the painting on the left like you do, but I'm not.
Maybe your program is a bit different from mine.

Very strange - if it's photoshop, you should be able to.

How do you add the references on the right? I know how to add the drawing/painting to the left, though.

Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-06-01 13:10:09 +0000 UTC]
Follow these instructions...
just open your reference picture - and shrink the sides to fit on the right.

In this vid, www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0cgjB… , what did you do at 1:36, so it doesn't look sketchy and messy?
Secondly, how do you use a wand tool and a paint brush at the same time just to color in a character?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-04-24 12:36:58 +0000 UTC]
Ah, I hid the blue sketch - by clicking the little eye beside the sketch layer. Making it disappear. I'd delete the sketch layer if you don't need it too- but I often keep it just in case something goes wrong.
If you use the wand tool and click a location- it'll stay selected while you use your brush.

Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-04-24 13:11:53 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, at 1:36 I delete or hide the blue sketch layer- leaving only the inked lines.

DisneyFanGirl1997 In reply to Cold-Creature [2018-04-24 13:20:04 +0000 UTC]
Okay, then you use the wand tool, correct?

Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-04-24 13:44:52 +0000 UTC]
Yes- you use the wand tool on the lineart layer- then paint on a fresh layer underneath the inked layer.

DisneyFanGirl1997 In reply to Cold-Creature [2018-04-24 14:05:16 +0000 UTC]
As for the lineart layer, you mean the sketch and not the blue one, right?

Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-04-24 14:31:12 +0000 UTC]
blue one is the sketch/messy lines
The black lines are the lineart/inked lines.

In this vid, www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0cgjB… , at 0:55 how did you make the blue ink light?
At 1:36, how did you make sure it didn't look like the original sketch?
What kind of brush tool did you use for the black ink?

Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-04-04 03:30:14 +0000 UTC]
I lowered the opacity... meaning- I made it more transparent.
I used a hard brush for the inking - black - so it's not soft like the sketch brush.

Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-04-24 12:26:01 +0000 UTC]
No- because I didn't use it again. But you can if you like? The only reason you lock a layer is so you don't accidentally erase it, or you want to colour the lines you've put down without messing them up

DisneyFanGirl1997 In reply to Cold-Creature [2018-04-24 12:31:10 +0000 UTC]

>>The layer with the blue sketch on it- I lowered its opacity.<<
Lowered the layer's opacity, correct? Or is it the part that you paint? So, you use a different brush for the blue sketch? I'm sorry if I'm asking stupid questions.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-04-04 13:29:36 +0000 UTC]
I understand- it's very complex. The sketch is deleted later- after you ink a layer above it.
You paint on clean layers under the ink-
So the sketch layer is only for the sketch.
I use a different brush for sketching- but you don't have to. Just experiment and find a brush you like for sketching- OR - sketch on paper and scan your sketch. That was you can make a layer above the sketch and ink it that way.

Unless you plan on dragging the line layer for the shadow.

I think I'll start with blue for lineart on the bottom and black on the top. It looked to me that was exactly what you did.
Did you use the stock images after you colored the background?

Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-03-23 13:20:07 +0000 UTC]
Yes- I use the textures on top of all the layers- so it makes it look like paper- rather than a flat picture

On separate layers- yes! Blue is the sketch - and black is the ink on a higher/separate layer

I have a new question on your vid, Sketch, Lines and Shading Tutorial - PS7 Tips and Tricks: Why did you overlap the layers and make a new one at 7:00 ? Same with the sketch at 7:04 . What was with the blank layer on the very bottom?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Cold-Creature In reply to DisneyFanGirl1997 [2018-03-12 01:12:43 +0000 UTC]
I never use the white layer at the bottom- because if you paint on it- everything else around it will be white.
The blank/new layers are like invisible sheets of plastic- and when you paint on it- only the colour you paint shows up.
