Description

The escalation of global conflicts, use of chemical weapons in Syria, the Arab Spring, and the Second Cold War (Cold War II, between USA and China) led to the nuclear exchange of 2020, otherwise known as WW3, in which the USA, the European Union, the Argentinian Coalition (every South American nation minus Brazil), Australia, South Korea, Japan, and India formed the Earth Defence Pact, while China, Brazil, the Islamic countries, Russia, South Africa, and North Korea formed the Alliance. The deadliest catastrophe in human history happened, leaving radiation areas which plunged underwater in days, including Beijing, Tokyo, Washington, D.C., Warsaw, and others (not every city was doomed, a fair few survived). Afterwards, some nations fell into anarchy (the USA, Argentinian Coalition, China) while others rose to new heights (Japan, Russia, Europe, South Africa).

A change for the better occured in Japan, where scientists discovered the Japanese Miracle, a machine who can clean nuclear radiation. After Japan was fully cleared, its leaders sold several duplicates of it to the remaining governments of Earth. The badly-hit area of North America never fully recovered, leading to a 5-year long Civil War between the old US government, and the new, authoritarian government lead by Winston Philips (new Hitler), also supported by the old Conservative Party, and a whooping majority of the defence industry. The situation worsened when Russia invaded Northeast and Southwest America, while Canada joined the US. A treaty was eventually signed, separating the former US states between the three nations.

The European Union survived the war, however it soon fell into the same situation as the USA due to growing corruption and the non-distribution of supplies to the war-torn countries of Poland and Greece, causing a large rift between the Western states and the remaining Eastern states. As a result, the Eastern states declared independence, forming the European Commonwealth (capitalist, with socialist elements). To combat this event, the Western states united into the European Federation. The United Kingdom, citing the conflict as futile, left the EU (Norway and Sweden joining in fear of an attack). Other EF states which wanted no part of the war, declared independence too, and united into the Confederation of European States. The Islamic countries were greatly-damaged due to the war, and saw profit in the oil trade. Soon they established a caliphate which included the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Madagascar, and North, Central Africa. The independent state of Turkey joined the EC instead (y'know, cultural variety and all).

Asia became the world's major financial center after WW3 due to it being relatively unscathed after the war (Japanese Miracle cleared a lot of the damage; except for China). Japan and Russia became the two superpowers of the globe, competing with each other in almost everything. India became a major power too. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, feeling left behind, united into the Federated Commonwealth of British Nations. Eventually, political conflicts began to rise again; this time centered on the Indochinese Peninsula. The Chinese Puppet State (controlled by Russia) and Japan reached political turmoil due to the disputed region. West Europe and the US tried to solve the disputes through diplomacy; it didn't last for long as Japanese troops opened fire on Chinese troops in 2027. The rest of the world picked sides; the American Empire, the Federated Commonwealth of British Nations, India, and the European Commonwealth were on Japan's side, while Russia, the South American nations (whatever remained there), and the Islamic Caliphate on China's side.

The war was non-nuclear, but it did bring a considerable death toll (for a one-year war, that is). It didn't go brightly for either side as most battles were reduced to stalemates (except for the AE invasion of South America). All nations were allowed to consolidate their winnings, however the political turmoil continued, even reaching a high point in the Chinese Puppet State where a Corporatist Revolution took place.

So, what do you think? I tried my best but if there's anybody not understanding something or a mistake on the map, I'll gladly fix it.

Loosely based on the Ghost in the Shell series, which I do not own.

Columbia is the farthest the American Empire has ever made it and even then that failed. The AE is in an economic crisis and Brazil is the largest power in South America and the AE won't try to fight them as they are stronger and survived the third world war and the second Vietnam war intact. The AE is not much of a threat and really has only gained control of a few cetral american nations. Mexico has actually fought back against the AE and won. Because of that the AE has lost even more status as a world power.
