My "Fallout" map of Europe.

SHORT HISTORY:

Europe. A continent plagued by wars and conflicts. A continent whose nations started two World Wars. A continent where numerous ideologies have been rooted. A continent which was and still is the home of both the brightest and the most wicked people in the world. As time passed, the world's resources began to decrease in number. Oil, wasted continuously since the Industrial Revolution, proved to be the most scarce of these resources. This global energy crisis couldn't come at a worse time; everything was running on oil. Thus, the last major possessors of oil in the world raised the price for it. It proved to be catastrophic.

The European Commonwealth, whose oil came from the Middle East, was profoundly damaged by these actions. Eventually, the Commonwealth invaded the Middle East in a very long war (which started in 2052). Throughout late 2053 and early 2054, the cities of Tel Aviv, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sana'a were destroyed by nuclear weapons, belonging to either the Commonwealth or terrorists. The war ended in 2060 due to the Hamid-Neveu Treaty. Nevertheless, the Middle East's oil pipelines ran dry as a direct result of the war, and the area became unstable. Europe, though, was able to maintain order for about a year, albeit with growing civil unrest and revolts in major cities.

Project: Homeland was started, and several vaults were built over the European continent (in that year) in the case of a nuclear war. After that year, the EC dissolved, and most of its successor states started the European Civil War (which pitted Italy, along with France and Spain against the UK, Germany, and Poland, the Nordic and Eastern nations often switching sides; other states (Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia) chose not to get involved. Southeastern Europe became involved in the Yugoslav War (Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary vs Yugoslavia and Greece), while Czechoslovakia joined the Soviet Union.

Ironically, the inter-European battles saved the continent (except for the Soviet Union and former Czechoslovakia) from the nuclear bombs of the Great War (which occured in 2077) (it may be important to mention the fact that Berlin, Paris, Madrid, and Rome were also hit by nukes, each sent from the opposing side in the European Civil War). The fighting stopped after the nuclear exchange of the Great War, and once again the European nations worked together in order to save themselves from the soon-to-come Nuclear Winter. Two hundred years afterwards, Europe is again split between various nations, their purpose being that of survival, however.
