Description
The last of the "Escape from Society" pieces. This was fun and very exciting because IT MEANS I'M DONE WITH SENIOR PROJECT WORK!!!! I didn't get everything that I wanted to done (I wanted to make a book) but I'm still excited none the less. My friend helped me concept this one. He thought I should do something that involved technology and gaming. While the theme is not specifically games, it is about the copious amounts of technology that is changing how we interact with society. I won't bore you with the details.... Enjoy!Ink, gouache, photoshop CS4

You can blame all the nerds I hang out with for just how many screens this kid has! You can never have enough, especially if your boy friend and half your friends are animators. I have a second screen sitting beside me right now and all together and I own 4 computers (one desktop and three laptops)... don't get me started.... lol!!!!! I think the Post modernism label just about fits the bill for this image.
Thanks for the comment!

GO MAC!!!! I love my mac!!! Especially if you are going to be doing any graphic related stuff on it. Shop around for screens though before settling on an expensive mac one. Best Buy has quite a few NICE screens that you can swivel on their stands and change the orientation from landscape to portrait! It's really nice to have when you are working on bigger, complex pieces.

Ooo gurl u speak the truth however i dont have much money bettween a car and running the car lol, but im saving for a mac laptop so the screen is pretty much furthest from my mind.
You said before your friends where animators before. Im leaving school in a couple of months and have always wanted to be a "graphics designer" however thats an extreamly broad topic so I would like to be involved in maybe animation, or advertising however I dont really know what sort of jobs are in animaion. With your friends what sort of jobs do they do, do they have a title, im so confused o.O lol.

My friends tends to just call themselves animators, however, that title doesn't render any specifics within a MUCH larger genre. If you really want a good idea of what kind of jobs are in animation, just look through the credits after a feater length animated film. Being an animator entails that you have an understanding of the basics such as stop motion (clamation falls in this genre), 2d (hand-drawn), 3d (computer generated), and flash (vector based). Within these sub-genres are even more sub-genres. My boyfriend is interested in Game design and narrative based animations. He tends to work more in Maya (3d animation program) to create his animations for his demo reel, but he has done 2d and stop motion as a starting point.
My friend likes working in flash to create his 2d vector based animations. but he has also worked with the other mediums (hand drawn, 3d, etc.). He wants to look more into short cartoons and motion graphics.
It sounds like you might be interested in some of the smaller motion graphics type of work. things like logo designs and commercial graphics. I hope I'm not too off the mark but graphic design, animation, and advertising are usually three different departments within a studio. They all work together, but there is never just one person doing them all. You may want to look into Graphic design with a minor in motion graphics. Motion graphics aren't necessarily animation, but they share roots.
Sorry for the long review.... I know a lot about this kind of stuff. I looked into animation when I started looking for colleges. I'm an illustrator myself, but I'm learning animation again. Hope that helps!!!!
lol!

Thanks for that info iv been looking into a lot of universities and collages right now, and there are so many things to choose from. I wouldn't mind getting into game designs or even concept art however you need to be good at maths for that and sadly I am not
Im glad I know someone who knows a lot about this stuff now I have a go to lady lol. Iv always like the idea of illustrator but what sort of jobs are involved in that?
And your right about your friend motion cartoons is something i would love to be involved in, but could you imagine how many others would like to get involved it that. Ill check out his/her page thanks so much/

Being a designer in gaming doesn't have anything to do with programming most of the time. It nice to know and more people would hire you, but as my b/f says, that's all they would hire you for. Concept design and game design have A LOT to do with illustration. You have to understand character development, back grounding, and a lot of times, story development. Illustration in itself envelops TONS of genres. I like to think of it as a mix between fine are and design. Illustration started with fine art and from there it helped develop graphic design. If you out an illustrators able up, I'd like to think it says you can do anything. Personally I like working with subjects that I can put a new twist on and make readable to my audience. However now a days, people just toss illustration into the Graphic Design category. I can go on and on about the politics behind that whole mess but that would take waaaaaaaay to long. Do yourself a favor and google "concept illustrators" either for movies or games. Jason Chan is a big name I like to toss out. Also John Howe. An awesome game to look up is the "metroid: corruption" game art. Most of that was done in the US. As well as "A boy and his blob". Remember there is more to a puzzle than just the outer edges, When you get to the middle you uncover a much more pleasing image.

Freaking. AMAZING. I really like this one. Its really scary to think of it in this way, as I sit here and write to you over the internet and interact with your art this way as well... almost more than I do in real life. Or just as much....
Thats a little terrifying.
