Description Well, after many delays and bouts of procrastinating over detail, I finally got around to finish painting my Chapter's Captain.

Some of you may remember the original from here: colonelyeo.deviantart.com/art/...
I know... it's dark and rather... blah.

There have been many rule changes since I started Caspian here. Namely to the Codex Space Marine Chapters. Since I can no longer field a Master of the Chapter with the command squad I own, I decided to demote him. Hopefully he won't resent me for it in any future battles.

I think this has to be one of the better paint jobs I've done. Especially the purity scrolls and the cross on the front. The emerald on his braid clasp, and the campaign badge on his left knee, worked out pretty well too.

I've also been rethinking my Chapters name. I kinda slapped together the name, Sacred Knights. Now it just seems corny somehow. I decided to swap out "Sacred" for "Celestial". So they're the Celestial Knights. Any thoughts?

Of course! I'm a Space Marine player myself in fact.Β  Β Or I guess I was :/ I haven't played a game of 40k in ages.
I still think they're awesome though!

Glad to help make your day!

No way!

That's awesome to know! I haven't actually played a game in a while either. Last game I remember playing was the midnight release of the Apocalypse battles. But I still love to collect and paint the figures. One day I will fight again though!

My thoughts?

First:
AHHH 40K! I love the W40K universe! I have yet to actually play any of the original tabletop stuff, but the bits of lore I've gotten from the video games are just.. awesome. Glad I found a fellow enthusiast!

Second:
Wait, you madeΒ this? Dear lord, sir. Good job!

It is indeed great to meet a fellow enthusiast, and thank you for taking the time to fave and watch me.

Badass looking mini, how did you paint the gold?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ColonelYeo In reply to MOxC [2013-01-04 05:00:17 +0000 UTC]

I used a few tricks and tips I picked up through White Dwarf.

Since the colors I used aren't being made anymore, I'll tell you what I've currently used to replace them:

- Start with a base of Balthasar Gold, then apply Gehenna's Gold.

- Once that's dry, you put down two washes. First a wash of Seraphim Sepia, then a wash of Druchi Violet in the recesses.

- After that dry's, put another coat of Gehenna's Gold, then Auric Gold, and finally a edge highlight of 1:1 Auric and Runefang Steel.

Thank you very much! I may use this method of painting gold on my Plague Marines.

love the detail on his chest, i suck at doing that kind of stuff with so many diff colours

ColonelYeo In reply to WoodlandHermit [2012-05-20 02:17:05 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, Woodland.

As I remember it the chest eagle gave me a fair bit of trouble getting right. The aiguillette was fairly hard to get the right shade of red as well.

Nice!

I'm about to paint a figure I've made, but I'm too scared of messing it up so I haven't started yet
If it ends up half as good as this I will be happy

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ColonelYeo In reply to SameAsUsual [2012-04-22 00:59:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

You can only get better with practice. I'd say just practice painting on some cardstock or something else like that to get a feel for the paint first. That should help a little with the jitters.

What kind of model is it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SameAsUsual In reply to ColonelYeo [2012-04-22 15:47:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've been practicing a bit on some test pieces.
It's been ages since I last used model paint

It's a Twilight figure I've made (the one in my gallery).
It has been primed and ready a couple of weeks now.
Maybe I'll gather the courage soon ^^

The detailwork on this is insane @_@ I like how his weapon has a weathered look to it.

which weapon? The lightning claw or the Combi-bolter? I'm happy either way, (and I think I already know my answer), but just so I know for sure.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psaply In reply to ColonelYeo [2012-04-17 17:16:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm assuming the Combi-bolter. I didn't want to be insensitive and refer to it as "the gun", especially since with my luck it probably shoots cannonballs in real life.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ColonelYeo In reply to psaply [2012-04-22 00:09:23 +0000 UTC]

Nah, that's fine! It wouldn't have been insensitive. I can't expect everyone to know what this stuff is. Plus it's not like there are any other guns on him to get confused over.

But that's beside the point. I was actually thinking you might have been talking about the claws. So I'm actually very surprised right now. Thank you very much for that!

(You weren't too far off about the gun by the way. But think bullet sized rockets instead of canon balls.)

TheLadyJ [2012-01-13 23:47:10 +0000 UTC]

Is this by brush or Airgun? Really the detailing on the cords on his chest is what draws me in.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ColonelYeo In reply to TheLadyJ [2012-01-14 03:20:21 +0000 UTC]

It's all 100% good ol' brush and paint.

I'm glad the Aiguillette did it's job and drew the eye in. I wasn't sure what color to use for it when I was starting out.

Very nice work. Painting is all around nice and crisp, although a bit muddled perhaps on the faceplate. The freehand is ace though. Really like the use of Celestine's halo, haha.

It was either Celestine's halo or Huron Blackhearts. I'm rather glad I picked the former...
