Description
This was made completely in GIMP 2.6 except the Space Shuttle, that isn't mine, that belongs to this artist:Nebula Stock: [link] from: [link]

This took about 3 hours to make. and the idea came from my fantastic friend he said that I should try making city Lights on the Planet and try having some Spaceships with the light reflecting off them. I thought it was an awesome idea and it inspired me so I created this. TA-DAA!
Enjoy!

The City lights are on the dark side of the planet, those white lights in the shadow.
Thank you for your commnet!

Now THAT is COOL! I faved it. It will probably end up in my wallpapers folder at some point.
Just a personal note, the lights it looks like you put on look more like massive snowflakes imo I'm no artist, but there seems to be missing the "glow" factor. Still fantabulously well done tho. Ooh! If you do another one try and put in lots of ships! If you can that is.

XD I'm glad you like it, I did make it for you.
Good that you bring that up, for some odd reason i really couldn't get it to glow to well. I guess I will have to practice on that more.
Sure, I will most likley have to draw the ships my self.

For sure. I just wonder, how you got the nebular effects to glow? Maybe use something similar. Or failing that just use little white dots, like here - [link] or here [link] just to help give you some pointers. Or try looking for pics of the world at night - I have a poster from a National Geographic showing the world at night, and all the lights and such. Pretty sweet!

Oh I used Soft Light effect on the layers for the Nebula. it didn't work the same for the city lights since that layer was already set to overlay. >.< But next time I might have to spend about half an hour putting in all the detail with white dots.
With those images you showed me, they had painted them on, that take a long time and I'm going to do the same thing. But it will just take longer. ;0
Yeah I was looking at the Earth at night today, it's awesome.
Also, my next piece I plan to make up my own solar system, so the piece is going to be huge.

Well, whatever works for you. Just googled Coruscant and those were a couple pics that came up. But yeah, to get a real good idea of what I'm thinking, look at night pics of Earth and you'll find some good stuff.
COOL! Can't wait to see it!

Nice job! As marycat414 said the shuttle needs some more work.
Shadows look a bit weird, either dark side of the planet is too bright or dark side of the moon is too dark. Being so close both should have the same illumination (I'm still dealing with this kind of stuff myself, not at all easy)
Very nice athmosphere effect on the planet, the nebula rocks and the starfiled is great!

Indeed, the shuttle was a little rushed since it was the last thing I added.
XD I couldn't decide on which should be dark or not. I thought that the Planet would be lighter since I was being lit from quite a few angles as for the Moon I thought I'd make it really dark since it's behind the Planet.
Yeah, I have been working with this kind of work for about 2 and half years now.
Thank you for your comment!

And how did you make the nebulaes ?

I just made the Stars and then added layers and layers of clouds and blended them then I would make them look 3D. I did a lot of things like adding colour to them using overlay in layers options then blended all the colours into each other and such.

This is such a bright, mesmerizing work. It makes me hopeful and happy! Since you requested feedback, may I tell you that the only thing I find a little out of synch with the whole work is: the spacecraft fire tail. Can you make it more curved to match the curvature of the planet ... and more soft and fading into the atmosphere at its end? It's lovely. Cheers!
