This was made completely in GIMP 2.6 except the Space Shuttle, that isn't mine, that belongs to this artist:

This took about 3 hours to make. and the idea came from my fantastic friend he said that I should try making city Lights on the Planet and try having some Spaceships with the light reflecting off them. I thought it was an awesome idea and it inspired me so I created this. TA-DAA!

Yeah, I find that if you Overlay the Nebula over some bright starts it looks great.

Alright, I'll try it out! I tend to find my nebulas become far too transparent when I use the overlay mode, but I'm sure there is some way around that. Thanks for your comment!
