Description
I created this in GIMP 2.6 and it took me somewhere between 1 1/2 Hour(s) to 3 Hours.The Starscape/Nebula took the longest.

yeah, i kind of thought that, i was thinking it wasn't deep enough. i was thinking about not going to close up and making all the planets and nebula's small and everything so it looks a long shot.

Have you tried putting little dotted lights on the night side of a planet or moon before? You know, to give the appearance of being inhabited? I think that would be really neat.

yes, I have thought of doing that, but I got a little tried, it takes time to do that. But yeah I will try it soon. I know how to do it. ;0

AWesome! Try it. Maybe put speckles of light in orbit as well, you know, sunlight catching off orbital satellites or starships!

Great work! How do you create the brighter stars with the spokes? I also work in GIMP and I can't seem to get anything that works quite right.

For the Stars, well, I started with a whit circle and I then started messing around with the smudge tool and bringing bits of the circle out then I would Blur it and add some soft light and keep messaging around with different settings until I got it right. 
I have to say, it is hard work. I have been thinking about making GIMP Tutorials for my work.
