Description Despite the plethora of incredibly talented entries, I've decided to enter my modest spacescape into this competition. Comments and critique are welcome, I'm always willing to learn.

In this image, the star is rather appropriately the center of power. In our own solar system, roughly 99.8% of the energy is focused in, and emanates from, the sun. When the nuclear fusion reaction goes wrong, the results are nothing short of apocalyptic, as the poor planet in the image will attest to.

All work on this image was done in Paint.NET.

Wow, with paint.net. I use Gimp. Its also freeware but I think gimp is much better than it. I could never do something like this with Paint.net

The Gimp is much more powerful, Paint.NET is easier though.

Very nice. I love the sun. It looks like it is exploding! The planet has a nice texture too.

Wow, Paint.net? I used to use that but I think I kind of outgrew it very impressive.

I plan on using Photoshop eventually, but for now, all I have is PdN. Thanks.

HOW do you do this in Paint.NET? I can do it in photoshop but as far as I can tell paint.net lacks the tools necessary to do this. Plugins?

commandersozo In reply to ErikMcClure [2010-01-13 05:06:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, like Shape3D, smudge, and many others. Plugins are pretty much essential to making a good space scene.

So why can't Paint.net just package a bunch of them?

commandersozo In reply to ErikMcClure [2010-01-13 13:26:10 +0000 UTC]

Rick would have to get permission from all the plugin makers, etc. It's easier just to offer them for free on the forum, though he has incorporated plugins into the program before.

A downloader of some sort with a mass plugin list would be nice.

Yep, there are some mass lists out there.
