Description This piece has a kind of funny story. I had just started my AP art concentration, which, summed up, is "things that piss me off." It's actually a lot more complex than that, but hey, whatever. It was also about layering. So I found a notebook I had when I was about 3 and took notes on it at a model UN conference. These notes were really just me making jokes to my friends. Then this one girl gets up and reccommends that women in developing african nations should sell cell phones to their peers to make money. I was just in shock. So I took all my notes, and my placard which I had spent the better part of the conference doodling on, and made some art from it.

Nice! I had Model UN at my school too, do you by any chance go to a IB school?

Cheers!

We're in the process of switching actually. But I'm a senior, so I'm just finishing up with APs.

Oh, we only had the 2year IB diploma, whats AP?

It's similar-- means Advanced Placement. Basically, the classes are like IB classes and count for credit in most colleges, but you only take a test at the end of the year for a score, not the whole submitting of all your work etc.

That's really cool. Cell phones are flipping annoying and that girl is stupid. I love how the picture is on several different pieces of paper turned at different angles. Just spectacular.

It's nice when someone actually reads the description. (there's no way you'd get this without it-- "....Model UN....??")

Thanks!

jesus, i also thought this was a photo i really like the use of the edges, it splits the picture up in a good way. It kind of reminds me of one of those books kids always have that are like find a snake. And you can sit there for 20 minutes looking at a picture of a library and not find a snake and then realize that the foot of the chair was a snakes head all along. There are many focal points. Well done I say.

hold on... my mind just isnt comprehending this right now...
what media did u use? it looks like pastels to me, but i can tell theres more detail than pastels like to give you too...
and how big is this shit? is that your actual notes that you drew on top of?

kiltpower In reply to kiltpower [2006-12-22 03:48:04 +0000 UTC]

yes i think thats everything. Thats pretty big for a drawing... my drawings for my AP portfolio are half that size at biggest! I guess im just not motivated enough to go much bigger.
And for some reason i appreciate this piece so much more now that i know what u used to make it, when before i already thought it great.
Kudos

The drawing is pastel. The writing is pen. Those are actual notes. The piece is about 24x30...ish. Did I get everything?

Very interesting mix of layers and different media, without appearing too clustered. Really unique work

This looks extremly unique to the eye, and to think this is all done with traditional media, which makes it all the more better. The composition is certainly great, and all the objects are arranged in an intriguing fashion. The title itself is an interesting choice.

I really like this piece. It has some real artistic merit in it which seems to be lacking from most of the members here (including myself)
You have quite an imagination, and quite the skill in bringing it on your work.

Awesome mixed media piece, I like all the detail in the phone, which makes it so real between all the mess the collague creates.

It is really creative and it can keep you busy for a while trying to find all the elements in the composition. Well done! =]

It took me a few moments to get what you meant about layering. That ratchets the quality of this from cool to awesome. Wonderful job you've done here.
