Description

A dull white flashed through the living room.

Allure studied the child snuggled under his wing.

The inky-black pup fidgeted; their wings and control surfaces twitching violently.

The pup's folded wings emitted a series of yelps and snuffles that quickly became sharp cries as a minute mouth, only just bigger than the Concorde's pupils, materialised from the sooty depths of the older pup's limbs.

Allure's eyes crinkled and he tilted his head -until the bigger, black pup, Furtif, raised their head and joined Fofa's demands for milk.

Allure rolled his eyes and reared further onto his neck.

The tired Concorde eyed the black pup. Tonight was the child's first night indoors with all doors leading outside closed. It had taken roughly two years to gain the pup's trust, from watching them in the safety of the trees across the extensive fields, to conversing with Fofa, to nursing from Allure and finally, to the pup following them indoors.

Allure had slowly inched each door closed with each of Furtif's visits. He hoped that the child would see the house as a place of safety, and seek shelter there when harsh weather washed and tossed the trees and land.

Allure slowly curled his nosecone around Furtif's head and began to purr.

Furtif yawned and relaxed into Allure's embrace.

Fofa ceased her yelling and snuggled back into Furtif's wings with a 'Eeegph burr.'

Allure caressed Furtif's head, thinking back to when he had been their age. Each nightmare had been banished by his mother's or father's nosecone, wrapped around his tiny form or behind his cheek-strakes.

Warm and comforting.
