Dyslexia is not primarily an issue with grapheme parsing.

Dyslexia tends to be worse when graphemes look similar from my understanding

That's probably true for many dyslexics, but not for all. It would depend on the particular deficits the individual has, and on what kind of orthography they're trying to parse.

It's actually based off of Inuktitut Syllabics, already used by thousands of people in the Arctic, some of them are bound to be dyslexic. I think it's all just a matter of what you're used to. My mom has dyslexia and can't seem to wrap her head around simple conjugations in Spanish, but there's plenty of dyslexics that grew up with Spanish and speak it just fine without any trouble conjugating.

somewhat, studies have shown that the brain processes written language differently depending on how similar the graphemes are and it's usually more processing demanding when the graphemes are similar.
