Description
I thought it was about time I did a comic page in colour. I really enjoyed doing this. I love all three characters and I've drawn them all at least twice before but it was fun to do them in colour, especially She-Hulk. The bottom left hand panels are a bit of a tribute to Ron Frenz, whose run on 'Thor' I loved and who used to love drawing narrow panels with the same characters just slightly shifting their heads or changing their expressions. I went with the early 90s look for both Shulkie and Wonder Man circa their own series and thought it would be amusing to stick Wondy in Zubaz pants.Update: I had so much fun drawing this page that I'm jonesing to do a follow-up page ... only problem is I've run out of ideas. Anyone want to help? If so, just PM me your idea and if it goes ahead, I'll obviously credit you in the final product and mark it up as a collaboration. Just nothing risquΓ©, please.

Technically, yeah. Last time I saw him was a couple of months ago when the Hulk was pounding on him.

I just found this artwork of yours and all I have to say is Wonder Man needs to be taken down a peg or fifty more on his ego, since She-Hulk did a great job, but with WM looking for someone weaker than him with whom he can workout... it's obvious it wasn't enough.
So maybe Spidey and She-Hulk can team-up to do just that? What do you think, Conrad?

I dunno, I really like Wondy! I know he was insufferable for a while when he was in the West Coast Avengers but normally he seems like a nice enough guy, particularly now he's a pacifist. Actually, I think Rogue's got his powers at the moment.

Β Β Funny stuff.
She-Hulk was always breaking the fourth-wall during John Byrne's run. This page wouldn't have been out of place.

That's exactly what I was going for. I loved Byrne's She-Hulk series, at least while he was handling both the art and writing. Shulkie's more popular now than she's ever been but as far as I'm concerned, nobody has ever written or drawn Jen as well as Byrne.

lol Β My favorite part is when he goes to Spider-Man . . . because everyone knows Spider-Man probably couldn't bench more than Mary Jane's weight on a good day (and she's skinny as hell, just like him). LOL Β Poor Spidey!

Well, I wouldn't say Spidey's *that* weak ... but he's a looooong way from Shulkie or Wondy's ballpark.

Absolutely ... so taking the Handbook figures literally, he's about one tenth as strong as Wonder Man. However, when you take into account that Wondy has lifted weights equivalent to thousands of tons, you realise Spidey's very, very small beans compared with him.
Like I think I mentioned elsewhere in the comments, the whole strip's a bit of a gag anyway because I think Wonder Man's stronger than She-Hulk. The guy choked out Red Hulk not all that long ago.

Thanks a lot! I don't have the B/W artwork though unfortunately. I went through a phase of posting both B/W and colour but I tend to skip straight to colouring now (badly)! I'd be more than happy to send any B/W comic work I produce straight to you guys though ahead of colouring it myself. Alternatively, I've got 2 Wonder Man vs Thor pages and 5 Red Sonja pages in B/W which I'd love to see somebody else colour. Also my 3 Faith Harper pages ... they're based on a character created by cosplayer Tabitha Lyons and I bet she'd love to see them in colour.

Yes!
What I try to do, which might or might not work with you, is to show 'Stages' of work such as: pencils, inks, then colors. Even if you don't choose to upload them, you at least have them saved in your computer/Autobot.Β
I have tried to color my comics with pencils, markers, and digital means. So far, digital is the highest caliber, for me.
I really like how your art turns out. Maybe you could collaborate with a colorist for your Black & White Art? If that is what you are looking for...
Good luck. Please let me know if you want to speak further about comics in general.
This weekend, I will be down in NYC for NYCC which I am ecstatic for.

I dunno, I find scanning my stuff to be a pain in the backside! Our scanner's not very reliable.
For colouring, I probably prefer colouring pencils, depending on the pic. Markers/felt tips worked really well on my Galvatron picture but sometimes they look scrappy. Would love to try digital colouring but I'm a total novice at it.
I'm more than happy for anyone to colour my B/W stuff. A fantastic artist who is one of my watchers coloured some of my pics awhile back and made them look ten times better! Feel free to colour any of my work if you want, just let me know and ideally credit me in the description.
Have a great time at NYCC! Are you planning to meet any big names or get anything signed? I'm off to a con in November but it'll mainly be catching up with some friends and getting photos of my daughter with cosplayers.

I might take a crack at coloring some of your stuff. If I do you will get all of the credit, of course.
I got back from NYCC Sunday night. It...was..amazing! I was with 2 adults and one child who have never been to a Con before, so my attention was on them more than myself. Didn't get anything signed but I saw Chris Claremont and Adam Hughes at their booths in Artist's Alley. In the past I have been very blessed to meet Mike Mignola, Simonne Bianche, Quesada, Palmiotti, and many more.Β
Have fun at the Con with your daughter, we had lots of fun with our kindergarden companion. I will be posting some photos from the NYCC soon!

Really, mate?
Well maybe next year. This NYCC was the largest Con I have ever be to, which includes Wizard World(s) Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia! It was AMAZING!
Perhaps if you work on your own creator-owed Comics, you and I could share a table in 'Artists' Alley'? Bring the kids!
I will continue to work on my Comics for the next year.

The coloring seems to be a little odd but that doesn't matter :3 i am surely impressed about the backgrounds too, i am so bad in drawing backgrounds that i basically HAVE to be impressed xDD how long did this one took you?
(good jop!!)

conradknightsocks In reply to Crudaka [2014-06-07 20:22:44 +0000 UTC]
It didn't take that long, really, probably about 4 hours in total? The colouring was a bit rushed to be honest - I intended to work on it from Thursday through to the weekend but eventually decided to get it done in one day. I used three different types of pencils, two of which are watercolour pencils and aren't great for this purpose. I wasn't happy with all the grey in most of the panels but a lot of artists showing Avengers training have used grey for the training rooms. I spent AGES debating Shulkie's skin tone and ultimately went for a relatively light green because I didn't have many options - I would've liked to have used a darker green but never mind. Thanks for the remark about the background, it's difficult to hit a balance between putting in too much detail and not putting in enough. IMO the best comic artists don't make the background noticeable unless you're actively looking at them but when you do look at them, they're great. Don't know whether that makes sense or not. The colour really helped though, in my Wonder Man vs Thor pics, the lack of colour meant that the characters and background were too hard to pick out from each other.

I think it was in the All-Access follow-up. J'onn disguised himself as Cap, then hit a sneak-attack on Thor, who said his strength was impressive and asked if he was related to the Hulk.
