After finishing in 3rd place with Louie and Tombs, Melanie wanted to push herself futher. She represented the stables well, but she wanted to see more. Improvement. And the only way to do that was with training. The other thing that crossed her mind is..perhaps, using Louie for other jumping disciplines wouldn't be ideal. The stud already has plenty of experience in show jumping, and could improve more on building on the foundations he already has, rather than mixing up his training for cross country. Instead, Mel came up with the brilliant idea of specializing Tombs in cross country. The stables had plently of horses to work with, so she didn't need to limit herself to one horse. More work, the merrier, right?

Originally when she worked with Tombs, it was only going to be a one time deal for the show. But now, she needed to come up with a new schedule to juggle her part-time job as a barista, on top of training and competing with Louie and Tombstone. Her plan turned into doing training at least 5 times a week with each horse. Thus, how "Melanie's Boot Camp" was formed, courtesy of Julius and Nick.

The boys thought it was hilarious, Melanie didn't quite see eye-to-eye on it, but for once didn't argue with them. Since Nick started working with Rava, he and Julius had gotten a lot closer. So, now it was two verus one, and she didn't like those odds. Fortunately, Nick wasn't keen on competing in show jumping and preferred hunter. That man was the reason why she took Louie to the hunter class instead of the show jumping  class at the autumn show. All the talk of mixing things up got into her head to break up the monotony, which he was right and she was not complaining. The show was a lot of fun and helped point her into a direction that she wanted to take.

Some days it was a jumping course, other days it was flat work, and today is was gymnastics. Louie has a habit of jumping too early sometimes. So, Melanie wanted to make Louie think a little bit more and not get too carried away with the excitement of JUMPS! Today would not be about speed and time. More so about getting the position in her seat, finding balance, and keeping it tidy.

Melanie retrieved Louie from the paddock and led him up to the crossties, clipping each side of the halter, before removing his blanket. Which was caked in dried mud and made the blanket relatively stiff to handle. At least 15 minutes was spent on grooming before tacking up. They always had to be matchy-matchy. She lead him out to the indoor arena, and didn't waste any time before getting into the saddle. Mel warmed Louie up with some light flat work and transitions, followed by going over an individual jump on a 20 meter circle. Feeling satisfied, she began taking him over the gymnastics line.

It was a little rough. The first line, Louie got a bit excited and jumped too early, which took the rhythm off and Mel had to adapt quickly. At the end of the line, he decided to throw some bucks. Mel braced quickly circled him a couple times, slowing down to recollect before trying again. After that point, it ran pretty smoothly. A couple times, Louie would jump a little higher than necessary for the jump, which almost made Melanie fall off once. All in all, it was a pretty good day. They didn't knock down a pole, and Louie had to use his brain a little bit instead of running through the whole thing like a mad-man.

Melanie gave him a long cool-off before dismounting and taking him back into the stables.
He earned himself a carrort for his work and a little kiss on the nose.
