House Martell! I realize that folks who haven't read all the books (or are only familiar with the show) may have not met House Martell yet, but they're sort of awesome. Their seat/capital city is Sunspear which is described as being made of mud brick and being surrounded by massive walls. Also featured are the Spear Tower and the Tower of the Sun, which are tall and domed (and the spear tower has a huge spear out the top). They're both hopelessly phallic, and there's really nothing I can do about it. I based the castle/city on a combination of Kasbahs and moorish castles, since they are the best examples of the use of "mud brick". Also Dorne is a desert and it's residents are often described as "swarthy".

House Martell's heraldry is the Rhoynar Sun being pierced by the Martell Spear, and it took forever for me to figure out a design for that sun that I liked. People who are familiar with some of the Martell characters will know that the snakes refer to both Prince Oberyn (known as "the red viper") and his bastard warrior daughters who are known as "The Sand Snakes".

Mostly I just wanted to include some kind of animal, and snakes are almost as awesome as dragons (and now I want to go back and redesign Dany's dragons based on pit vipers). These snakes are based on a variety of horned pit viper species (and I apologize to any herpetologists out there, I loosely mixed and matched their markings across a variety of species). The scales of each snake took the longest by far, but I think they came out pretty well.

Just about done with these- just have to re-do the wall so it matches with the others. Also it's been suggested that I work in "The Free Cities" and possibly Bravoosi.
