Description
There was only one really good thing about fighting ghosts – at least in Danny Fenton’s mind. Saving people, being a hero, all the accolades was good, but not the best.

The best part was what happened after a fight. He wasn’t entirely sure why, but seeing that look in Sam’s eyes when she rushed up to him, feeling her delicate fingers brushing against his skin as she bandaged up cuts and nicks, and listening to her quiet tirade about watching what was going on and paying attention… that was the best part. For some bizarre reason, watching her fuss over him and seeing her relieved smile when he was finally deemed ‘okay’ sent a tiny thrill through him.

Today, however, that best part had just gotten so much better. After quickly bandaging a long slice across his chest (received, in her words, because he had been day dreaming instead of watching where the knife was heading), she glared down at him as he succumbed to the warmth of the summer day in the park. Danny stretched out in the soft grass, one hand tucked up under his head, eyes half-closing as he reveled in the ghost-free sunshine.

After a few moments, Sam flopped down next to him with a soft comment about ghost hunters and crime scenes. Danny didn’t really care as he let all his worries and cares float away on the soft breeze.

At some point, Sam’s eyes closed. She snuggled up next to him, her body warm and soft against his. He curled his arm around her drowsily, feeling her heart beat and her breathing slow as she fell deeper into sleep.

As his eyes drifted closed too, he couldn’t help but wonder at the feelings that were spinning unhurriedly around inside of him: protectiveness, contentment, happiness, and more than a little bit of a warm, fuzzy feeling that curled around his heart.

He was just about to drop off into sleep when one final thought slipped into his brain. One eye cracked open to look down at the girl using his chest as a pillow and an impossibly happy smile appeared onto his face as he drifted into dreamland.

He was – for now and for always – safe.

Anywho, picture is self-explanatory if you’ve read this far. The part around it is blue ‘cause that’s the same color as my desktop on my computer and this is now ON my desktop so it all kinda blends in so all you can see is the image and not the canvas. If that makes sense.

All done on Painter7 with my (FIXED!) tablet. XD If you care. From beginning to end it took about four months… but in reality it only took a few nights ago ‘cause that’s when I got inspired to color the sketch. My friend was giving me the run-down on her entire family’s history *eye roll* and I needed to keep my fingers busy so I wouldn’t hit the power button on the phone (I had my head-set on) and cut her off.
