technically I think the bird is drawn and rendered very well. The issues of concern are higher up in the hierarchy of skills regarding planning/composition
Like the other bird, this one tends to blend with the background, though to a lesser extent. That is because you are throwing light behind light and dark behind dark.
Take a lesson from the long tradition of portrait artists of reversing that order. A bright face is framed with a dark background while the dark back of the head is framed by a light background. The issue at hand is Framing. And here I'm suggesting framing by tonal contrast.
