Description Manga Studio 5 has some interesting texture overlay options that I haven't spent nearly enough time exploring. I tried to do this quick Rose picture and was disappointed with how drab the colors looked by the time I was done blending the shades and highlights. I remembered this tutorial fav.me/d5t4epi by 888toto here on DA. It mentioned that if you dragged a texture over your picture you could set it in such a manner as to make light areas darker and dark areas lighter. Manga Studio 5 is becoming known for having some photoshop like abilities when it comes to color tweaking, but I decided to go this route on this picture and see what I'd get. Pretty interesting to me and I look forward to playing with other textures in the future.

I got lazy on The Fool card and took the image straight out of Rose's Perfect win pose in Street Fighter Alpha 2. Modified the colors and added some simple highlights on it.

Rose is from the Street Fighter series of games by Capcom, as you well know.

If you need any inspiration for this style this is the gallery of someone who used to post on the gutterzombie forums who used texture a lot.

The bad thing I've heard about using textures like this is that it flatten out an image when they are put everywhere. In reality texture doesn't show up everywhere and it isn't seen from a distance. Comics are very stylized anyway so it doesn't have to be realistic. But if you want to get a little more complex you can add texture only to parts of the image using masks. Its very easy to do in photoshop. I don't know how easy it is in manga studio 5.

I've been messing around with textures in painter 11 lately but to make it look like a painting.

Interesting thoughts for sure. I'll take what you've said into consideration. Thanks for taking the time.
