Description
~watercolor, coldpressed paper~I realized, I'd suck at landscape...don't know why, maybe too afraid, maybe it was too boring as a motive to me. But now I know I have to practice

Hello, I found your piece through ProjectComment
This is a very lovely painting! it has the very nice and warm atmosphere of a calm autumn day. The tree looks absolutely gorgeous! I love how you textured it. You get the feeling of leaves without literally painting them. You also used lovely colors in it, which balance nicely with the softer, less saturated background. As someone already mentioned you may have gone a little darker in shading the darkest parts of the tree, but itβs not a real obstacle. The tree still looks lovely and realistic. There is only one small thing you have to be careful for, the base of the tree should always be at its widest at the bottom. Now it looks a bit unbalanced. When you look at the reference you will see that even though the truck is uneven, it gradually gets thinner towards the top.
As I mentioned, the background has lovely colors that work really well with the tree in the foreground, but I feel like you could have added some extra textures and darker shades to it as well. Like a heavier shadow under the tree, in the foreground and under the bushes in the background. Now the rest of the scene does not have the same playful and lively feeling as the tree.
Overall it is a very nice painting and great practice! Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing more. <3

Thank you very much for this feedback
Now that you mention it, I'm still always unsure about values and tend to shade too light, thanks for pointing it out. And for the hint with the treetrunk!

I really do like this, but I think a few darker leaves on the tree would give it a more realistic feel.Β

Wow don't know, I still have to learn so much Speedpaints helped me definitiley, to get a feeling how the colors behave, how they look layered, how they dry. I think the transparency is the biggest challenge and that everything looks different dried. Thats why I made a cheat sheet of my palette and a mixing sheet like here: youtube it made me much more comfortable. And then practice, practice. And always looking, that I'm painting from light to dark because you can't paint over something light with watercolors alone.
So hope that helps and was not something you did'nt already hear ten times
