Description ~watercolor, coldpressed paper, white gouache~

Birthday card, Portrait of her tomcat. He is so big and always calm and chilled, I like him I like these little postcardformat at the time. My scanner overexaggerates the structure of the paper a bit, any idea what I have to do in photoshop to fix this without loosing contrast in the colors? But I kind of like it, too.

~constructive criticism welcome~

Lovely black cat!
Common scanners expose the light from one direction, so shades and shadows from paper texture will appear
I heard a solution that may solve this but I didn't try it.
First scan your cat normally, then rotate it by 90° or 180° and scan.
Second layer the two images in completely unison (I'm not good at English, sorry if this is not understandable, rotate second image and layer)
Finally change the upper layer mode to "Lighten" and adjust its opacity.

I write this procedure according to this page blawat2015.no-ip.com/~komiya2/… written in Japanese,
I think this method has some effects.

The type of paper you use looks weird, what is it ? There are horizontal strokes on it, I think if they weren't here it would be even more beautiful
And I love your painting style !

Yeah its the watercolor paper, I really like the structure on watercolorpaintings in general, but with these postcards it shows a bit more than the original thanks to the scanner

Sadly I have no idea about fixing the issue with the paper  ...but I think that those textures make the watercolor paintings special. It's the same with canvases. You can see the traditional art form and that's the main difference between digitally made artworks. The paper texture is like a finger print.

You don't have to worry too much about it. But it's a matter of personal taste. Some like it, some don't.

Thank you for your lovely comment Yes I know, and I really like the texture but with this paper the scanner exaggerates it more than it shows in reality and I want it to look precisely like the original in digital...but thats a thought I may have to abandon

We are artists not computer scientists

I also tend to look for the scanned version to be the same as the original artwork is ...sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not so close

Since I don't sell prints I don't bother too much...for presentation purpose it's ok
