Funny you mention that - this was basically my primary cast for a "first movie" of sorts. None of them would die, at least in that story.
My idea is that a significant difference between Autobots and Decepticons is that the former care about retrieving and repairing their wounded, the latter don't. Thus the Decepticons have a higher death rate.
They try to accommodate for this with the "soulless" Vehicons (alt mode seen in the other cast) which make for good cannon fodder.
