Sempai?!? *SQUEE* I don't deserve that! You're art is so much more amazing! You are my sempai! But anyhow, for flowy manes, just go with the flow (pun not intended). Imagine the direction it should go in. Keep in mind the space you have to draw it in. Then just go from the start of the hair, and draw along wavy line, where the humps of the waves vary in length. I tend to draw the hair with less defining of the strand of hair and aim for a softer almost silky texture. The hair stands would be more defined, like how you normally draw hair, near the base of where the hair flows outwards. So with ponies, it would be more defined near the ears and the base of the tail. The rest should have less and less lines, but still have some to show that it's tangible. Uhg. I'm terrible at explaining in text. I can try to show you in a stream or a tutorial sometime if you want.
