I am fixing up Cyan and Layla's sprites before I get to many done.The one in the center is the REAL sprite the other one was made to look like the messed up character select pic's dress. (because someone requested it; I will not be doing more of those sprites just the normal one)
Layla is my character please do not use her without my permission.

Is the icon supposed to be a goomba or did the game do that?

I didn't do the pic yet and I started it over a random character wad I had, I just forgot to black out the life icon like with the past screenshot. Nothing will be left of the goomba when I'm done with the wad.
