Oh my god I know - I think I farmed the same set if I remember correctly XD I always like having a defensive set no matter what as well as an offensive or utility set.

I totally get what you mean - he's got a big round shape and an adorable waddle, but contrasting with his imposing size and almost skull-like face. I'm totally with you though - there isn't a monster's design I hate. If I've learned anything from doing these drawings it seems a lot of people hate some monsters but I've never seen them with antagonism. n_n

Man those were good times, I'm just ashamed that I didn't get into MHFU when people still played online regularly, that game is a true test of skill solo. Those last few epic hunting quests in G9 were brutal!!


Yeah, Gravios is just a big chubby ball of rock. I love the mounting animation where you're on his belly, it's so ridiculous.

I love all monster designs, even though people tend to give me flack for liking even the "disgusting" ones like Khezu and Gigginox. Even they have things about them that I can appreciate. Yeah, some people will be immature and call them Penis/Vagina wyverns, but they're meant to be giant leeches. :l

So to them I say: Don't be wiggy, have a Giggi! (btw, capcom really need to bring back the giggi gun from Tri)

I mainly played just with one friend and now we play MH4U together. We're a solid hunting team (except when we're not and we get slaughtered but whatevers)! I remember the end stuff with Lavasioth and Fatalis and all that near-impossible stuff. I could solo a few of them but mainly hiding behind a lance XD

I like the gross guys too like Khezu and Gigginox, I'll admit they're a little spooky (mainly Gigginox) but I like them a lot too! Khezu has a nice derpiness to him in my opinion, and I like a lot of the design choices behind Gigginox. I really like Baleful Gigginox's colour scheme even though mechanically it was little similar to Khezu. Giggi is fun too, they're like socks with teeth. XD

I'm not big on sexualizing them either. There's some creatures where it's intentionally like Xenomorphs from "Alien" but I don't think the Monster Hunter stuff is intentional (Gigginox "excreting" stuff doesn't help but I don't think it's visually strong enough to put it in the same category)

I was alll by myself, it sucked. Though once I got a PS3 I got to help my friends with their progression and farming.
I recently got access to a PSP emulator and put my save file on it, now I have all those items that got dummied out.. I mean, I'm done with the game, so I may as well get the Japan exclusive armour. lol

I also started MHP3rd as well, purely to fight Amatsumagatsuchi. That thing is just gorgeous to look at in motion.

I love Giggis so much, I always yell at Gigginox when it runs them over. BAD Mom.. dad.. thing..?

Khezu's derpiness is the best thing about him. I also like how his roar sounds like someone being electrocuted. (extremely loud scream + electric current sfx) always gave me chills the first few times I heard that. I was NOT expecting that sound to come out of him.

Yeah, Gigginox is just meant to gross people out rather than be sexualized. (red) Khezu's literally based on the giant red leech that swallows things whole, which is pretty cool.

That's cool though, that means you're super tough! I'm pretty technology impaired so that's cool you've gone back to 3rd - I've never touched but I've enviously watched videos of it before 3 Ultimate was out. I really wish we could get an actual chance to fight Amatsumagatsuchi (with a localized name because that was too hard to type XD) but that one has been oddly left out. Since we get a chance to go to the village in 3rd in Cross maybe we'll get a shot?

That's really cool and very creepy about Khezu's scream! I never really thought of it like that but I'll listen for it next time I hunt one. It makes sense though, I remember hearing a Q&A session with some of the head guys when MH4U was coming out over here and they said a lot of the monster noises are animal noises mixed with super distorted human screaming (there's a creepypasta in there somewhere) which I think is super cool. They all have really distinct sounds, the only one I can remember being kinda lame is Gypceros because he makes a few really stock "monster" noises you'd hear in a TV movie or something.

I know it's all fantasy stuff but I like the subtle nods to real animals. If I ever wanted to make a fan monster or something I feel like I'd need to do a lot of research or I'd just make some nonsensical Monster Hunter Frontier monster that just shoots laser beams XD

Well, if you have a gaming PC, you can download the English patched ISO of MHP3rd HD and run it on PPSSPP emulator. That's what I do when I need to start making gems and stuff for my PS3 save, transfer it to my PC and find the skills... because I can't read Japanese :U

Oh man, Gypceros is the epitome of bad. He has bad AI, bad hitboxes, plays dead and lets you wail on him.. and his sound effects might as well be distorted turkers, since that's practically what he is... a big, drunken, rubber turkey. D:

I think the epitome of animal combos has to be Congalala, as gross as he is. He's like.. a Gorilla, a rodent, a hippopotamus and possibly a sloth because of its long claws. O .o

Yeah I think the language barrier has been my biggest barrier as to why I haven't tried yet. I've heard from a friend there's a pseudo-english patch made probably by die-hard fans so maybe one day I'll give it a go!

They both have really cool roars! I'm big sucker for good sound design - I love knowing how monster noises are made. I'm really into Bloodborne at the moment and that game masters creepy sound design (it masters everything artistically and mechanically really). Most of the beasts in that game let loose the most human blood-curdling, tortured wails it turns around and feels inhuman (uncanny valley but for noise - check out Cleric Beast and Vicar Amelia if you're never gonna play it and don't mind spoilers).

For the most part Monster Hunter has done a really good job, except for aforementioned giant turkey, and maybe a few other stock noises hiding in between other noises XD I'm actually also into Gypceros, he's so weird looking it works. Also the derpy face combined with the intelligence to steal items and set traps is a funny dynamic to me, even if he doesn't have the strength to get away with his tricks.

Congalala is a lot of fun too! He's kinda cute if you ignore his poop XD there's a lot of good animal combos, but Congalala definitely feels like the biggest mishmash. I like a lot of the Leviathans - Gobul looks like a angler fish frog, Nibelsnarf is like an axolotl shark and Lagiacrus also reminded me of a cobra crocodile - that last one might just be me though. They're all lots of fun

I definitely agree! I think a lot of Gravios' short comings come from the fact he's an older monster that needed a revamp, and his gigantic size kind of limits his maneuvering - but since Uragaan is a newer design model I agree that he's a lot more fun. The heavy stomping and slamming is mixed in with fast chaotic rolling which I think really livens up the dynamic of a slower monster. I'm a big fan of brute wyverns and the newest one in Monster Hunter Cross looks really cool, but I hope they make a few more to continue to liven up the family tree

Huh, strange choice in design - it looks like it would be a perfect brute wyvern - Fanged Wyverns are supposed to be in between wyverns and fanged beasts so you'd think they would go with something more mammalian :V

He definitely gives me troubles - he usually gives me a few problem when I go out on a hunt for him - but I think he deserves respect as a formidable monster. I appreciate that in MH4U Gravios and Basarios feel more like even fights with new breakable parts and mounting mechanics, but they still fill the void for big armored behemoths which makes them unique compared to the generally faster monsters. I feel like he gets over shadowed by Rathalos, Diablos and such.

I really like Gravios though, because he's such a Titan. This guy can run off into lava beds and fire lasers at you. He gets smarter with every ranking and can turn and shoot lasers, exhaust as he walks, and knock you out with gas shots if you're a bit too slow. The mounting switch up between back and belly also makes it have new and interesting mechanics for how to break him. Not to mention if you go in there with anything below white sharpness you're going to have some muffled screaming fits. He's a tanky tank and it shows. I like wearing his armor because I feel like with every new rank that I am literally a juggernaut of defense, at least until we start getting higher up. Rathalos is a terrifying sky king, and Diablos is an underground, fast charging rampage beast, but Gravios deserves respect too for his capabilities. Even if he is a bit on the slow side, he can still one shot you with a fireball/laser across a field if you're not paying attention xD;

I totally agree! He's a super cool monster with a lot of cool visuals - he does a great job of capturing the nature of the volcanoes he lives in, but he can also be the odd-one out if you find him in a swampy area. I'm into unconventional choices if they change things up in a cool way so I appreciate that he wanders from his volcanic home now and again

I'm also a big fan of his armor sets. They're always good for tanking monsters and it's design captures his heftiness really well. The mechanic of the slowest monster being able to buckle down and act basically as a cannon I think is a good way to combat gunners - it's easier to dodge fire balls then a straight-on laser - though sometimes I think he uses the gas a little too much at the expense of slower weapons in higher ranks XD

I always thought he had a metal design with big rocky spires sticking out and an almost skull-like face, so I'm happy I was able to capture his likeness n_n

Yeah the mounting mechanic makes him a lot more fightable rather then it being a slog fest. He's an imposing wyvern which I think is kinda underrated.
