Half-child of the stars, Cortifis are an enigmatic species, forming small family groups on archipelagos across Tethys. They were born when mages experimented with a strange magic they found inside hunks of stone that fell from the cosmos. Cortifis used to be the thralls of mages, but at some point they broke free from their entrapment, their need for the sea overpowering their shackles. The reason has never been fully realized, but it could be wherever that rock fell from was a celestial ocean far past Hiraeth's eyes. Cortifis make excellent warriors and hunters, able to shift their limbs into whatever weapon or tool they need at the time. Though many find homes far into the sea, some are known to neighbour coastlines and can talk with travellers. Cortifis are said to be somewhat emotionally stunted, but among their kin who's to say whats considered appropriate. A few hire themselves out as mercenaries among villages and pirates, the price being foreign and exotic foods to share with their family, or something that fascinates them-- a fair price for such skilled fighters.
