It is a fascinating and slightly frightening thought that somewhere out there, there is almost certainly somebody who is actually keeping count o.O

We need to develop some kind of app that uses a camera to detect and count them all

Would support the development, but dread the temptation to use it. Cannot keep from drawing Semitjov galactic hubs when inking with fine liner or dip pen, so if each star in a mesh of circles count, knowing the sum would probably melt the surface of my brain smooth. Which is still a number bound to be quite small compared to your own when you reach my age.
Do very strongly caution against counting them all when you are anywhere past thirty o.O
