I had the idea for this comic the night before an O-chem exam. Guess that goes to show you where my priorities lie.So I've noticed that the show's been kind of nice about giving Rainbow Dash things over time -- way back in Season 2, ~RizCifra drew this up after we realized how not alone Dash was anymore with Tank. Then "Sleepless in Ponyville" aired, and take that, Faust -- Dash's gonna try and be a responsible big sister. That said, we STILL haven't seen any mention of pegasus families for either Rainbow, Fluttershy, or Scootaloo (and I'm pretending the middle satisfies herself with bears or something for the sake of a joke), and the episode slots to explore those things are running out.
I can't say I WANT the show to go into their histories, though. Making up stuff like this is, in an attempt to get me labeled something derogatory, fun. I personally believe Rainbow Dash comes from a very happy family who she can count on when times get tough, but I just had to draw this first.
Thank you for reading. I'd love to know your thoughts on this, especially from the art angle if you could spare some critique!

Well to be fair, we have yet to see Applejack's parents, although its heavily implied that they are dead. Anyhow, it'll be a funny idea if she have no close family is content with it, initially, like how RD had no pet in the beginning and was fine with it until she decided to have one.

I also like how you could have just made the comic as: "RD, you got a pet? Pfft yeah, I got that! You got a little sister? Hell yeah, I got that too! How about a family? Uhh yeah, got... that... ;_; "
but instead you went all out and made a fine comic.

So Fluttershy's animals are her family? I thought they were more of her pets or something like that.

I love the ending of this. The transition was perfect--I got the impression of being literally YANKED away from whatever weird semblance of happiness preceded Dash waking up alone in her room. And then those last two panels were just heartbreaking. The buildup was seriously great, too. I just really like your idea for the entire comic (also, CSIMadMax's Hugen Dash comic comes to mind, heh). I was hoping people would draw more stuff like this, even though I, like you, personally believe that RD probably comes from a pretty happy family. But I still love seeing stuff like this and prefer it to whatever nice background that Dash most likely comes from. (I'm sorry, Rainbow, I only want to see you sad because I love you!)
As a side note, I was wondering what you'd do with Fluttershy's family, and it was great how you surrounded her with her animal friends.
The last two panels are still my favourite.
All my rambling aside, I love this comic because it made me sad.

Oo, you done draw goood! I like your style, it looks very cool! Now to make my life complete, I hope you get bored and make a very scaled up drawing of that panel with Scootaloo doing a derp face, that is a new kind of awesome that was unknown until this point in time. Woohoo!

I tend to think Rainbow came from a rough family where she had to teach herself self-reliance. Think about Indiana Jones' dad and the way he treated his son, and you'll come close to how I think Rainbow Dash was raised.

This is pretty awesome art work here.
I do believe that the pegasi seem to be aloof when it comes to family, having what they consider to be bigger priorities. After all, pegasi do have their heads in the clouds. And since unicorns have their magics to focus on, that leaves earth ponies to be the ones who understand what family is all about. Perhaps AJ will teach RD a thing or two that she can take back to her own family.

Scootaloo's facial expression is beyond adorable xD This is fantastic, dude! Backgrounding is wonderful, and that full out many-pony-panel must have been a BEAST to do. I really envy your backgrounding/scenery skills. I'll have to ask you for tips sometime.
Interesting to note: I noticed your ponies' legs are often longer than in the show. I like how it gives them a little more of a mature look
