I had the idea for this comic the night before an O-chem exam. Guess that goes to show you where my priorities lie.So I've noticed that the show's been kind of nice about giving Rainbow Dash things over time -- way back in Season 2, ~RizCifra drew this up after we realized how not alone Dash was anymore with Tank. Then "Sleepless in Ponyville" aired, and take that, Faust -- Dash's gonna try and be a responsible big sister. That said, we STILL haven't seen any mention of pegasus families for either Rainbow, Fluttershy, or Scootaloo (and I'm pretending the middle satisfies herself with bears or something for the sake of a joke), and the episode slots to explore those things are running out.
I can't say I WANT the show to go into their histories, though. Making up stuff like this is, in an attempt to get me labeled something derogatory, fun. I personally believe Rainbow Dash comes from a very happy family who she can count on when times get tough, but I just had to draw this first.
Thank you for reading. I'd love to know your thoughts on this, especially from the art angle if you could spare some critique!

That's something I've always wondered, where is Rainbow Dash's family? (And Fluttershy's for that matter). They might be revealed later on, I hope...

in my personal opinion I think Fluttershy is scoots real sister... both of them are pegasi and manes/tails are types of red and coats are types of yellow.

Possibly, but if they are sisters then they must live apart, because Fluttershy seems to live alone. Actually it would be quite weird if Fluttershy is Scootaloos real sister (unless they don't know it) because Scootaloo is now Rainbow Dash's 'honorary' sister, as the show seems to want us to believe that Scootaloo is an only child.

I think Faust wanted either RD or Applejack to be orphans but Hasbro said that was too dark.

Wow yes that would have been dark. We might see Applejacks parents next episode (they might just be working on another farm) but I have an odd feeling that Rainbow Dash's parents were both Wonderbolts, and one or both of them had some sort of tragic accident when she was a filly. I'm probably wrong, but at least the writers wouldn't have to worry about explaining why Rainbow Dash's mane is rainbow colored, as oppose to all the other ponies who have either one or two colors in their manes

This can be an actual plot for an episode, where Rainbow Dash learns that family isn't just her parents who can't come see her like planned, but also her closest friends. Best Friends = Family.

The plot could be just that; Rainbow Dash gets a letter telling her that her parents are coming to Ponyville for a visit, and RD gets the whole gang pumped up for it. As RD gets the party going, she stands by the door awaiting the arrival of her parents, who never show up. She eventually goes into a depression, with all of her friends cheering her up. Throughout the cheer session, RD learns that her friends are all the family she needs... and then her family actually arrives.

it's strange that pegasus ponies don't seem to have parents. perhaps they are abandoned at birth? raised by the community? pushed out of the next to see if they can fly?

Lots of folks seem to think the rearing of pegasi is a public function, owing to their Spartan-esque history and whatnot. That's not a belief I subscribe to, honestly, as Equestria's pony population feels fairly homogenized culturally. I'm pointing to Hearth's Warming Eve as evidence for that -- sure, different kinds of ponies fulfill different day-to-day roles, but they all share the same land in the end and answer to rulers embodying each of their special traits.

I think it's a nice and sweet idea, allthough I assume that Rainbow's Family isn't "gone", as well as Scootaloos or Fluttershy.
I could imagine them, especially Scootaloos, beeing "not so liked" though, just as Rarity feels a bit bewildered around her parents.
We got introduced to the different parents/families along the way, so I assume they're just going to come somewhere in the future ^^

I don't know. I always thought of Scootaloo as an orphan. Near the end of sleepless in ponyville I was tearing up cause Scootaloo finally had a big sister. And where are AJ's parents? Seems wierd since she's so close to family.

But more because I was happy for her dream to come true.
I don't really think she's an orphan. If she's an orphan - who's taking care of her then? I don't think Ponyville has an orphanage, so if she's an orphan without relatives, wouldn't she live in a bigger city like canterlot, or even Cloudsdale, where an orphanage would make more sense?
For AJ's Parents, I actually always assumed that they're dead. Especially as they didn't turned up in her Cutie Mark story. Also, since this is a family farm, they should be on the farm if they're still alive? Then again, as AJ went to Manehatten, she was so young, that Applebloom had to be either a baby or not have born yet, so it's a bit weird that her parents are dead at that point.
I don't know, maybe they died at some point, maybe they left them alone, or maybe they have some other, important buisness they have to take care of.
Since there's not much that you can write about AJ Lesson-Wise (she's too "adult" for that actually, if you look at her episodes, she barely has to learn a lesson, as she's often right from the beginning. Only exception is her first own episode, Applebuck Season), you can mostly only write episodes around her family, so there's room for giving her parents an explaination ^^

I think AJ's parents were at least around past Cutie Mark Chronicles, just 'cause Apple Bloom had to come from somewhere. My impression is that they're either city mice uncomfortable with the bucolic life, or else they're just wanderers coming around to visit every so often.
And I'm not one who believes Scootaloo is an orphan, either, though the evidence for that interpretation is convincing. I think the show could really profit from exploring the different distances ponies can have with their families, as you see just between the families we know already.
