I had the idea for this comic the night before an O-chem exam. Guess that goes to show you where my priorities lie.So I've noticed that the show's been kind of nice about giving Rainbow Dash things over time -- way back in Season 2, ~RizCifra drew this up after we realized how not alone Dash was anymore with Tank. Then "Sleepless in Ponyville" aired, and take that, Faust -- Dash's gonna try and be a responsible big sister. That said, we STILL haven't seen any mention of pegasus families for either Rainbow, Fluttershy, or Scootaloo (and I'm pretending the middle satisfies herself with bears or something for the sake of a joke), and the episode slots to explore those things are running out.
I can't say I WANT the show to go into their histories, though. Making up stuff like this is, in an attempt to get me labeled something derogatory, fun. I personally believe Rainbow Dash comes from a very happy family who she can count on when times get tough, but I just had to draw this first.
Thank you for reading. I'd love to know your thoughts on this, especially from the art angle if you could spare some critique!

You raise a good point about none of the pegasi having families. Then it got me thinking;
Have we ever seen an old or older pegasus? We've seen old unicorns and earth ponies, but I can't recall a single pegasus that looks or acts over the age of about 25 (in human years). Do they all get sent to the glue factory once they reach a certain age ala Logan's Run.

Season 1, Episode 18 Sonic Rainboom. Very old mare who looks like Granny Smith in the cloud factory at Cloudsdale. Not to mention the John Madden announcer for the Wonderbolts. They just don't get the airtime as the other species.

In Sonic Rainboom when Rarity is showing off her wings, there is an old grandma pegasus that says "Yeah, I could watch you fly all day long!"

Cant say that animals which you look after count as a family…so FS in same position as RB, maybe they both orphans? or they families are far away.

Fluttershy's family is animals 1) to help single Dash out even more for the purposes of this comic and 2) for a joke.
On a more serious note, I can't think of anyone Rainbow Dash could see as family that we've seen in the show if she needs someone to reassure her and support her through rough times. You saw how wonderful the animals were to Shy in Hurricane Fluttershy, though.

The more I think about it, the more I should've put Spike in there, yeah. He and Twi grew up together, a fact I think lots of bronies don't think about.

He basically has the same dreams as Rainbow Dash did in this comic. Both dreaming about their real family members.
Celestiawho by the creator's word is the one who raised him making her a mother figure and like you said Twilight grew up with him giving her a sister role making sense he forms a familial bond with them.
Also great work on the comic, I really felt bad for Rainbow Dash

Yeah, aside from Thunderlane and his little brother Rumble, there haven't been a lot of detail in pegasi families. Plenty of us would love to see this, like an even shyer Fluttermother, a laid back or extroverted papa Dash, or... a Scoota-mom or Scoota-dad... I want those last two so bad...

There are so many different ways the writers could take pegaparents. Ego did one where Shy's father was this posh former Wonderbolt who speaks like Fancypants in my head.

Unnecessary? The point of the comic was that the show's been giving Rainbow Dash more and more relationships over time, and I sort of expect the writers to address the issue of her family at some point in the future. Since we don't have any official information in that vein, I just went ahead and had some fun. Like I said in my description, I believe Rainbow has a family, but I just couldn't resist faking some folks out.
I'd be interested in hearing how you would have ended this comic instead, though!

Remember, you started from something that seemed to be a running joke and suddenly "right in the feels"
