That "reason" is false anyways. Flash didn't turn evil. That would imply that he did it himself with no influence by his own choice. He was brainwashed just like everyone else. By that logic, everyone should hate Derpy, Trixie, Photo Finish, and everyone else that was brainwashed. If Flash wasn't hypnotized by The Dazzlings, there's no way he would've acted like that. In fact, he would have actively tried to help Twilight any way he could. But to help drive home that The Dazzlings were out for blood, the writers needed to make sure that they meant business and to do so, they made them capable of turning a nice guy like Flash into a jerk under their control. I said this before many times, and I'll say it again. I am the fan you are referring to and I will NEVER hate Flash Sentry. He's one of my favorite characters and nothing is going to change my mind on that. And besides, you saw the ending, right? Where he hugged Twilight? That was to show that he was no longer under their control and he wanted to make sure Twilight knew it so there wouldn't be any bad air between them. He's not evil and he never will be.

I wouldn't call it "flat". I would say he's "Basic" as in "From the ground up" where more can be done if someone would just DO something with him." The idea behind Flash is that he was created to be a character for the fanbase to use. A character that the fans could create a story for as well as think of their own ideas for him and what to do with him. In that sense, he is just as any of the the background characters that get absurd amounts of praise.Β
