Another Countdown ready to roll! Second original one by yours truly! Here's the blank version! [link]
BOSS BATTLES! They are one of the very things in video games that make them all the more fun to play! Going through a challenging story or level full of tough enemies and finding yourself pitted against a powerful new opponent! Some are disappointing, some are awesome! Some are underwhelming, some are just downright fun, difficult, and epic! (Yes that word is overused. Oh well.) Now let's take a look at my top ten favorites in the games that I've played! Now this is based on my own opinion, so please respect it and don't expect the same results on your lists. Also, no Final Bosses. That is for another list later. And warning, some of this list may contain spoilers. So you have now been warned! Enjoy!
#10: E-102 BETA MK II (Sonic Adventure-Dreamcast)
He may be the last boss of GAMMA's story, but it's not the final boss of Sonic Adventure. That title belongs to Perfect Chaos. But back to BETA. He is greatly improved from when you first fought him! He's a lot of fun to fight especially since you're playing as GAMMA and trying to shoot him! But to keep him from being too interesting, he deflects your attacks and shoots you with his own when he isn't trying to punch you like Knuckles! But what I also really like about BETA is after you beat him, BETA and GAMMA both explode and are now free Flicky Birds... Free as a bird. Get it? Bah... It's actually a good scene between the two birds as they are brothers in a family.
#9: Meta-Knight (Kirby's Adventure-NES)
Talk about your awesome characters! Meta-Knight is one of the coolest characters in the Kirby franchise if not the absolute coolest! And as a boss, he's a lot of fun to fight! He challenges Kirby to a fastpaced sword duel and throws you a sword to fight him with! His attacks introduced in Revenge of Meta-Knight from Kirby Super Star and Ultra were awesome to look at, not so awesome to be on the recieving end of though. He even gave you a sense of strategy since he can actually block and parry some of your attacks if your not careful! I always love bosses that make you think!
#8: Cliff Hudson (Dead Rising-XBOX 360)
Now here is a boss that was actually a 3 dimensional character. It's too bad that I had to kill him. I would've loved to have him as an ally! Cliff and Frank would have made an excellent team. Oh well. Cliff's battle is (As Mediamaster127 on youtube would put it) a badass game of hide and seek! He goes at you head on with a bloody machette and you have to either dodge and shoot him, or take him on man to man! After hitting him enough times, he'll try to run into an escape hole that leads him to an upper level on one of the shelves in his store where he starts throwing frag and smoke grenades at you! Watch out for that! Now this is a fight to remember! But to find out why he went insane, it really makes you feel bad for him. I mean, he lost his granddaughter to the zombies of Willamette. I would hate to meet the man who feels good after that. The war has ended, Cliff. It has....
#7: Reala (NiGHTS into Dreams-SEGA Saturn)
BAEDICHINOA NiGHTS!!!
Okay, I haven't played the first game, but I have played the second game and I do know how both boss battles went so this will have to do. Reala copies NiGHTS' abilities perfectly right down to the Paraloop! In the first game, you face him head on and you have to paraloop him 3 times to beat him. However he has every intention to do the same to you. Though his hits only take 5 seconds off your timer. While 3 hits kill him. In the second game he creates large Maren Balloons that he launches at you and (Guess what) you have to do the same to him! 5 times. Both of these fights are rather unique and have their own sense of challenge despite how easy they seem. But they are supposed to be easy for those who have experience. After all, NiGHTS' gameplay style is supposed to support speedruns. But what really wins me over is his battle theme, NiGHTS and Reala! It starts out all awesome and catchy but then turns into an angry version of Dreams Dreams and actually keeps it sounding good! One of the best boss themes EVER! Only reason it's at #7 is because of how easy it is. Except for the fact that he keeps flying all over the place, making him a hard target to hit!
#6: Dimentio (Super Paper Mario-Wii)
Dimentio's battle style is pretty easy. Though has a bit more of a challenge to it than Reala. But anyways, Dimentio attacks using a constant barrage of magic attacks and teleporting. He also has an attack where he keeps creating dimensional boxes that explode if you get caught in them. And after taking some damage, he starts multiplying to create fakes of himself that launch their own attacks in all directions! His battle theme, like Reala's is seriously catchy! It's Showtime! All you have to do is jump on him until his HP goes to 0. But good luck with that since he keeps flying all over the place just like Reala! Jeez, crazy Jesters with magic attacks that fly around and have catchy battle music. Must be a trend in videogames with light and dark feels to them.
#5: Ridley (Metroid-NES)
Ridley is a very iconic boss in the Metroid games! And I'm not going over the Ridley scene from Other M again! I already covered that in my Top 10 Favorite Video Games List! Now back to Ridley! He's appeared in pretty much every game in the series as Samus's arch nemesis! He has been killed several times and yet always finds a way back! And his theme, once again, is awesome! As a boss in either the Metroid games or even in Super Smash Bros Brawl is a lot of fun! But I can't say no to Samus's finisher in Metroid Prime 3 Corruption where she violently continuously blasts him in the mouth while falling into a REALLY deep shaft! My favorite appearance is Mecha Ridley from Metroid Zero Mission! It actually makes for a cool final boss! But he has proven time and again that you don't have to be the final boss to be the most iconic in the series! We know for a fact that the next time we get a new Metroid game, we will have Ridley!
#4:
Margaret Moonlight (No More Heroes 2 Desperate Struggle-Wii)
The Angel of Death itself has taken many forms. A car running you over. A gunshot to the head. A psychopathic murderer. A skeleton wearing a robe anc carrying a scythe. Well how about a gothic girl who sings the song of death, dresses like a dark french maid, and carries two large scythes that double as sniper rifles?! You get Rank 4 of the UAA in No More Heroes 2! And ironically the Rank 4 on my list! Funny, huh? Well, her battle has such great symbolism and a great atmosphere that I just couldn't think of not putting her on the list. And the song Philostine, which is the song that she sings to tell Travis Touchdown what she feels about him and his cause for revenge. And that being that she feels that he is a complete hypocrite and his cause is meaningless and he has already killed enough for one lifetime. So she takes it apon herself to deliver justice to him. Only to end up getting killed by him in the end. Too bad. Just like Cliff, this is a boss that I really didn't want to see die. Oh well. When you're dead, you're dead.
#3: Scorpion (Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks-PS2/XBOX)
YUS! My favorite Mortal Kombat character next to Cyrax! Yes, Scorpion is a playable character from a fighting game franchise and yes, he is unlockable later on in the game, but I'm talking about the boss fight you have with him! You fight Scorpion in the NetherRealm (Hell) with torchered bodies and souls and skeletons falling from the sky above and Scorpion wants to make you one of them! Scorpion pulls out all the stops in this fight! First you start out fighting him head on and he performs special moves that are both familiar moves such as the usual spear and teleport punch. But also has spear swinging chain combo moves that are devestating! And after beating his HP down, he teleports away and starts casting his Searing HellFire move on you from a distance and you have to make it to the next arena to continue the fight! He then has a new spear the ground move where he stupidly leaves himself wide open with a TEST YOUR MIGHT section and you give him a taste of his own medicine! GET OVER HERE!!! And just when you think you have him by stabbing him in the head and throwing him into the hell fire below, it's not over yet! You still have to defeat him AGAIN! Yes, he comes back for Round 2 as Ghost Ri-er I mean Infernal Scorpion! Once you defeat him again you get a new Fatality cutscene! But I wonder why he gives a thumbs up when the skeletons pull him into the lava.... Hmm.....
#2: Herr Frederick Von Twirlenkiller (Madworld-Wii)
This guy is like a combination of Adolf Hitler, Red Tornado, Darth Vader, and Iron Tager! He's got it all! Intimidating looks, incredibly large size, wind turbine fists, a killer's instinct, and an awesome atmosphere and build up! He's a tough fighter, as to be expected! I guess you could say "What you see is what you get with this guy." One thing my sister, pointed out that I just noticed is that Twirlenkiller has a "W" in his name. And if he's supposed to be German, shouldn't the "W" be pronounced like the letter, "V"? Oh well, he's still an awesome fight! I would have picked The Black Baron, but he's the final boss and you know what I said about that rule for this list. So, why not go with the next best thing?
IT'S NUMBER 1!!! Itachi Uchiha
(Naruto Shippuuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2-PS3/XBOX360)
I haven't been into Naruto for a long time. But when playing this game, it brought my interest back for a good while! Especially when it came up to this fight. When I played as Sasuke, I didn't expect much since I hate the character. But when I went into the battle with Itachi, I was really suprised! Itachi's fight was so well made that it even trumps the fight with Naruto vs Pain! Even if it wasn't the final boss, Itachi's fight would've been a better choice on my list! It's animation sequences with quicktime events was so well made! From the Shuriken clash where you mash the X button/ Square button to the part with the Fireball Jutsu, Amaterasu Black Fire, the awesome Kirin ultimate attack! JUST WOW! And it doesn't even end there! In the second round, Itachi pulls out a large fiery warrior that goes by the name: Susano'o. Hmm.... Susano'o, Amaterasu, Orochi...... I wonder. Yes, after knocking Susano'o down to a small amoung to HP, Itachi will lure out (A still alive) Orochimaru from out of Sasuke's Curse Mark and with a giant 8 Headed White Serpent! Yamata No Orochi! And after the short but sweet quicktime cutscene with Orochimaru FINALLY biting the dust (And Susano'o's giant blade) the Curse Mark is lifted and Sasuke and Itachi are both out of energy. As you back away from Itachi, Sasuke can't do anything but trip over. And just when you think he has you cornered. He gives Sasuke a last goodbye. He gives Sasuke his Mangekyo Sharingan! After the fight, you realize that Itachi was never a bad guy in the first place! He was actually the true protector of Konohakagure. He played the traitor so that his brother, Sasuke could become strong. If only his plan really worked perfectly, maybe then, Sasuke could have been a likeable character. Itachi was the good character.... And once again, I had to kill the real good guy here! The symbolism, the dramatic atmosphere and music, and the very concept of this fight is what landed its spot on #1 on the countdown!
I am the Soulwind Skater and DAMN THIS WAS MY LONGEST LIST DESCRIPTION YET!

Interesting choices. But since I too have played more games, this list is TOTALLY outdated. I want to make a new one.

im working on mine to put on deviantart, im happy with my choices and it was tough to decide who was better out of cliff or steven from dead rising (cliff just edges it for the intensity of the boss and depth of character)
destroyman is still my favorite NMH boss and Drek and the end were close but the end wins on originality. if you haven't played the MGS and/or Ratchet & Clank games i strongly recomend that you do.

I tried to get into Metal Gear Solid, but I didn't get too far until I decided to call it quits. I couldn't get into Ratchet and Clank. I tried for both, but most of Sony's stuff couldn't keep me interested.

fair enough, but they are my 2 favorite videogame series' of all time. but everyone is different. have u played dead rising 2? if so what do you think of the psychopaths?

Yeah, I've played a little bit of Dead Rising 2. The psychopaths? Not quite as memorable as the ones in the first one. The only ones that stuck out were the main villains, Adam's brother, and the Off The Record boss, Chuck Greene. It didn't keep my interest for too long. Not like the first one. Okay, maybe that mail delivery guy was kinda funny, not to mention he was voiced by the same guy who voiced Double D from Ed Edd n Eddy.

i agree, adams brother was crap though. Carl the postman and Reed and Roger (the magicians) were my favs from DR2 i did find them very funny, but Steven, Cliff, Adam, Paul and Cletus were all more memorable.

Yeah. Steven had a hilarious crazy streek and a badass boss theme, Adam was the same, but even crazier and more challenging, Cletus was a jerk, I forget who Paul was, and Cliff... well... heheh. He was the best boss in the game!

well i have to say that steven was more crazy than adam (steven attacked anyone who went in his store as he thought they were vandalising it but adam was just an un-original evil clown) but both bosses were epic. Cletus was a jerk but i felt sorry for him because he just didn't trust anyone, paul was the guy with all the molotovs and remote controle car bombs and cliff is definitely the best boss and psycho in the series.

Unoriginality doesn't measure how crazy someone is, just so ya know. But I get your point.
Huh, no wonder I didn't remember Paul. I just went up to him with a chainsaw and made quick work of him. Didn't really leave an impression.

Oh well. I guess at the time I wasn't in the mood to deal with any bull with him, so I just dealt with him like a common mook.

fair enough. ive just played on DR1 a few minutes ago, i had 3 bosses to deal with (not the hall family) luckily they were all in the north plaza, i had to beat steven to get the medicine then i could optionally go to either cletus or cliff. i chose cletus first but i cant beat him, he just shoots then reloads then by the time i get over the counter to attack him he just throws me away then shoots me lol. i eventually gave up and beat cliff and it was awesome as usual, that back stab and low slash attacks are deadly though. sorry to keep bothering you but who would u say was the easiest and hardest dead rising 1 & 2 boss?

Count-Author In reply to mr-perkins [2013-04-20 23:15:52 +0000 UTC]
The easiest boss? Well with the right equipment and stats, all of them are easy, but if you're not prepared, all of them could potentially be difficult. But I guess the first fight with Carlito was pretty easy since before you get to him, you can pick up a katana right outside the Columbian Roastmasters and take it to him and take him down quickly with it instead of using the pea-shooter Brad gives you. The hardest was probably the final boss, Brock. Huh, the easiest is the first and the hardest is the last, go figure.
Dead Rising 2? Well... I forget.

mr-perkins In reply to Count-Author [2013-04-20 23:40:37 +0000 UTC]
well on a first playthrough they are almost all pretty hard imo. the hardest in DR1 for me was either Cletus or Sean(both of these were very unfair though) Cletus never abandons the counter and rapidly shoots you and sean is very very fast and his attacks are damaging. The easiest is also out of 2 (or 5?!) Jo and the Hall family were very easy because you fight them on the 3rd day and by that time you're already sufficiently leveled up. jo was easy because she barely had any good attacks just hit you with a stick and tazer you and the Hall's basically could run towards you so you could give them a thrashing.
DR2 easiest = Ted you can bring him down with a few hits with the spiked bat
Hardest= Sulivan because you cannot fight this guy up close or he will own you by disarming you and beating you up. unless you have either the sniper or the six shooter and a lot of coffee creamer then this is a very tough boss.

cool list, i did love margaret from NMH 2 but i prefered million gunman, letz shake, destroyman (old and new) and captain vladimir better. my top 10 would be:
10. Hades from god of war 3
9. Herr Fred von Twirlinkiller from madworld
8. the Fury and the End from MGS3 (couldnt decide between them)
7. killbane (wrestling fight) from saints row the third
6. Letz Shake from NMH 2
5. Chairman Drek from Ratchet and clank
4. Destroyman from NMH 1
3. Malus from shadow of the colossus
2. Ares from god of war
1. Revolver Ocelot from MGS4
i know some of 'em are final bosses but they are often the best bosses in the game

Not bad a list. Great choices! To be honest, I hated Million Gunman. But Captain Vladimir... He ALMOST made it onto my list instead of Margaret.
True, most final bosses do top normal bosses, though I still plan to make my Top 10 Final Bosses eventually.

why u hate million gunman? i guess playing as shinobu was a negative (her taunting made me get hurt alot, especially against new destroyman on bitter) at least there was a great and fun strategy to this boss unlike alice and a few others.

Gunman's personality and backstory for starters was rather weak. And yeah, Shinobu was just not a good character. As for the strategy, I just got annoyed by how he kept disappearing into the doors and coming out and shooting me. I found little fun in any of it.

fair enough i respect your opinion, i dont realy care about backstories too much, plus his fight actually feels like a ranking match unlike the unmemorable battles with cloe walsh and matt helms. Million G's taunts were funny and now i actually sometimes taunt other players online on Playstation allstars and uncharted 2 with his taunts.
"im not going easy on you just because you're a girl"
"show me some respect... fuck you!"
"Do you love money like I do?"
lol
