Description
A greeting from my distant past. The result of fooling around with paint and critical symptoms of fanboyism. My old depiction of my top favorite video game character Caleb from Blood. Good old games. Was and will always be my top favorite. Why did I put it here? just a friendly reminder to learn to draw and make something new in future. Prepare your rotten tomatoes ))

Haha Caleb is one of the most interesting and bad-ass dudes in an fps game. I love the dual pistols btw a nice break from the standard dual sawed-offs.

Thanks. )
Actually when I first saw Caleb's in-game image I thought he was holding dual flare pistols. During that time I really loved that weapon coz it could guarantee final death of zombies through setting them ablaze. Zombies always made me feel uncomfortable. But not as much as gargoyles.

Flare Pistol is totally OP vs the cultist members and zombies in regular difficulty (they cannot be one-shotted anymore Well Done and up however.) and I love hearing the cabalists scream in totally and going IT BURNS IT BURNS. Haha great weapon. Gargoyles are annoying but I was scared of them years ago as I would jump when they would turn to flesh from the statues. Napalm and dynamite deals with them easily however.

Yeah, but you've got different perception when you play it being 7-9 years old schoolkid with weak knowledge of English. Lol I remember my first reaction to gargoyles after noticing their resistance to sawed-off was like "Aaaaah! F-ck! Run! F-ck! Run!". The same was with Phantasms. Also first time I'd got voodoo doll I thought of it being some kind of a detective clue or something. Good times )

Hey man you telling me about your Blood experience years ago is very cool. I like hearing about how these games affected us all. For me, I had a MAJOR phobia of the Choking Hands and the minute I would hear them, I would freak out. Took a long time for me to get over it and not let it hinder my playing. Sometime later I actually learned how to get them off by pressing the SPACE bar multiple times. Alot of the Blood enemies are really creepy if not downright scary. Imagine jumping into the cold waters of E2M1 and just hearing the Gill Beast swim towards you to bite your face off and you're not fast enough to run away. Love the horror elements of those games alot.

Heh, true. Choking hands made me neurotic usually too. And in addition to horror (btw this game started my love of that genre) the atmosphere has great element of some kind of darker alternative history and all this mystic and occult stuff.
*dramatic flasback time*
So here I am a in second or third grade of my school getting my first PC with only three games (Blood, Duke Nukem 3D, MDK - classic assortment) and the era of addiction has begun. Parents were really freaked out since kids spent half as much time with a PC as playing outside. Well, the blood and gore content of Blood only increased their anxiety for us to become maniacs or something like that. It gets worse when we start drawing everything from game in school notebooks.
But here we are 20 years later - no signs of mental instability revealed so far. Moreover those games motivated to learn English faster as I was sitting with dictionary in order to understand some terms. Perfect method of submerging into language environment. My grammar still sucks though. )

I agree about the occult elements. The Cabal was a fascinating, dark society that had woven it's way into the world of Blood even becoming a mega-corp in the sequel. The temple and monastery themed maps were some of the spookiest in the game.
My parents never really cared about the violence in games because they knew it didn't have an effect on the person unless the person allowed such a thing to happen. Dad grew up with games and horror movies while my mom was always a lax person which is lucky for me. It is true about games helping you learn language, it would be a lie to say my vocabulary didn't expand due to some video games with lengthy dialogue or quote. I drew a crapton of Blood fan art as a kid, mostly of Caleb and the cultists, in a side-scrolling style as the FPS look didn't come out so great on paper. Most of what I made is lost but yeah Caleb is a bad-ass and the bloody violence fits the tone. I'm not a massive gore hound but you know the violence in bloody is kind of silly what with the pro-fusing bleeding and IT BURNS IT BURNS. Creepy but funny akin to old B horror movies which is something I like about the series.

Well, our part of the globe did not have developed horror genre (even today we're in a deep rearguard trying to copypaste stuff that already exists) and our parents had a habit to believe that videogames create addicition similar to drugs and were not that enthusiastic about the content of games. Different era I guess.
Gotta say I still hope that Blood series will live on. After all Doom and Duke Nukem had their chances.

We just gotta wait until the time is right for a new Blood game. I think it will happen and if it doesn't, we will get a spiritual successor.

Wow! Thanks ) Never could imagine that 9-yrs old scratch will get a positive feedback) I've gotta do something with inspiration and learn how to draw.
I can remember how many my school notebooks were full of drawings related to that game. That and HoMM3) And how parents were freaked out and thought that Blood will turn me into maniac. ))
