Description BEHOLD! MEIN LATEST CREATION! ZE BEAST; IT LIVES!

Anyway, this monster of a tutorial ended up being about 25% longer than Fluttershy's , and I'll cry if I calculate how much longer it is than my Rarity and Pinkie Pie tutorials. The added length makes a little bit of sense since this is the first tutorial that involves quite a bit of trimming.

Also, I decided I would call the hair on her forehead "bangs", so feel free to laugh endlessly if you've never heard that term before. Somewhat ironically, although I use "bangs" to describe Twilight's forelock-thingy, the term is derived from the word "bangtail", a name for the tail of a horse cut straight across, or the name for the horse itself. So, if you happen to be a time travelling American from the 1860's, struggling to understand the terrifying technology the future has presented to you, this tutorial will probably break whatever is left of your battered mind.

I would also like to thank everyone again for your questions and comments regarding my tutorials, and the support you give me when I'm trampling though my self-assigned due dates like an elephant barging through an unfinished world record domino toppling attempt. I also love seeing the results of other people's styling both here, on deviantART, and in the ponychan thread .

And, of course, My Little Pony, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Twilight Sparkle, Owloysius and the Hasbro toys are all owned by Hasbro.

Anyway, I'm off to go replenish my stock of mana crystals. I've used up so many of them that I cannot even cook myself breakfast in the morning. I've been living off of 'Lucky Charms' and other slightly less magical meals for the past few days.

EDIT: Here are the Rainbow Dash and Applejack tutorials as well!

If I have time after styling Applejack, I'll probably put up a poll with additional background/secondary/alternate-hair-styled ponies, and I could probably put Pinkamena on the list. (If one is made.)

Mine looked GREAT until I noticed that her cutie mark is on the wrong side and I tried to "fix" it. Mistake! The bottom half of her mane is fine, but now I can't fix her fringe. I've got the whole process and the "fix" here. [link] If you've got any tips about how to even out her fringe, please let me know.

It looks as though maybe your "wave" or model of Twilight has the cutie mark on a different side. Mine came in a package with a tiny suitcase, although what ponies pack is beyond me. Maybe, in Twilight's case, a lot of books. Anyway, I guess the moral is to look at the pony and see where the cutie mark is before styling!

Fixing her fringe is kind of tricky, but you can try wetting it again with hot water and heat-setting her hair again with the fringe bound tight against her forehead with elastics. Just remember to bind the lower section of her mane as well as her tail with elastics and hairpins again so that those sections do not become messy during the heat setting.

are you going to do applejack's hair?

also: how long does the hair stay that way? Just in general

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to topitmunkeydog [2012-08-28 01:40:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes, eventually. I really cannot set any kind of estimation on how long it will be before Applejack's tutorial comes out, but it definitely is coming.

As for how long hair tends to stay styled, it kind of depends on the pony. For example, my Twilight went through some crazy post-styling shenanigans, so her hair is a bit messier than it should be. I imagine her hair would hold similarly to Rainbow Dash's mane, which has gotten a little bit messy, but her bangs still have a good shape to them and the rest of her hair is pointing in the right directions. The change is gradual, but you probably wouldn't really notice much of a difference in the style of her hair until a month or more after you've styled her.

Both Pinkie and Rarity's curls have loosened a bit, but their styles haven't gotten messier. At the moment, Pinkie probably looks better than she did after I styled her, and Rarity still looks good with her looser curls. Finally, Fluttershy looks almost identical to how she did after I made the tutorial which was done back in January.

After I've finished Applejack's tutorial, if I have time, I'll set up a poll with background ponies and the like to determine which pony I'll style next. Lily Blossom will probably be on that poll.

the original point of the toy was so that girls could have fun with their own little pony, brush its mane and style it. so i'm kinda happy that the toy didn't come with its hair already like the characters, it made it a lot more fun and let me relive my childhood also her bangs came out AHmazing! (check out my pony drawings on my page)

Hai. I've been styling my Twilight Sparkle, and you know the hairs that cover the gap in her horn? Well, every time I take off the elastics that hold it after putting her under the lamp, it parts. Ideas to fix it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to Cyankitten [2012-07-24 23:43:49 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. It seems as if her hair is not getting hot enough. Try sitting her closer to the lamp, but if that fails to work, you may need to use one of the alternative heat setting methods I mentioned under the lamp image in the tutorial.

Exactly if they want to insist on exclusively doing these lame dolls, they could at least try to do a decent job with the dolls. I mean It cannot be THAT hard to make an Opalescence out of plastic AND in the right colours.

I have no idea why they don't just use the pets from the show, but I have fun coming up with stupid puns for the new pets' names. I thought the thing Pinkie came with was a Porcupine, so I call it Pinkie Pine.
