Description
BEHOLD! MEIN LATEST CREATION! ZE BEAST; IT LIVES!Anyway, this monster of a tutorial ended up being about 25% longer than Fluttershy's , and I'll cry if I calculate how much longer it is than my Rarity and Pinkie Pie tutorials. The added length makes a little bit of sense since this is the first tutorial that involves quite a bit of trimming.
Also, I decided I would call the hair on her forehead "bangs", so feel free to laugh endlessly if you've never heard that term before. Somewhat ironically, although I use "bangs" to describe Twilight's forelock-thingy, the term is derived from the word "bangtail", a name for the tail of a horse cut straight across, or the name for the horse itself. So, if you happen to be a time travelling American from the 1860's, struggling to understand the terrifying technology the future has presented to you, this tutorial will probably break whatever is left of your battered mind.
I would also like to thank everyone again for your questions and comments regarding my tutorials, and the support you give me when I'm trampling though my self-assigned due dates like an elephant barging through an unfinished world record domino toppling attempt. I also love seeing the results of other people's styling both here, on deviantART, and in the ponychan thread .
And, of course, My Little Pony, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Twilight Sparkle, Owloysius and the Hasbro toys are all owned by Hasbro.
Anyway, I'm off to go replenish my stock of mana crystals. I've used up so many of them that I cannot even cook myself breakfast in the morning. I've been living off of 'Lucky Charms' and other slightly less magical meals for the past few days.
EDIT: Here are the Rainbow Dash and Applejack tutorials as well!

A part of me thinks you have way to much time on your hands.
Mostly, though, I feel reaffirmed in my belief that bronies are some of the most creative people out there.

Ahhh! Is your Twili's cutie mark on the right or left flank. For my pony doll its on the left but the hair looks like it is parted correctly on the right side of the doll for me!:c I might just be panicing. Also how do I get her bangs to stay down? I cut them and the curl inwards and they won't lay down on her and are poofed. Plus the left side looks more jumbled up than the other side. I could post a picture later if needed to show what I mean :c.

From the looks of it, my Twilight's CM is on her left side. Also, if you are having trouble getting her bangs to stay down, you probably need to get them hotter during heat setting. Pulling her bangs back down tight and giving her some higher-temp cook time should do the trick.

Well, if I have time, eventually, I plan on setting up a poll to let people choose which pony they want styled next. Celestia will definitely be on the poll.

Thank you for all the great tutorials! I've been meaning to try one for quite a while, and I finally gave it a shot with a ratty Twilight Sparkle from a second-hand shop. She has that separated fringe that doesn't like to lay flat so I'm still working on holding that down, but I've finally got a TS with her hair cut right.
(Now I'm eager to go trimming up all my other ponies' hair.)

Do you think this tut will work with the sparkle haired version??? I want to style them like in the crystal empire eps but I'm afraid I'd have trouble with the tinsel
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
countschlick In reply to TeenBulma [2012-12-18 00:56:21 +0000 UTC]
The trouble with the tinsel-haired ponies is that tinsel reacts differently to styling than regular pony hair. For example: When you hold Twilight's bangs down with an elastic and cook her noggin, all of her normal hair will curl the exact same amount, but her tinsel hair may not. This means the tinsel could end up pulling away from her regular hair, and that lack of uniformity will make her bangs look messy.
However, I have not tried this out myself. I have only inferred this from seeing what others have tried and failed to do. If you do not want to be bothered with the trouble of tinsel, you can just trim it out of her hair. If you would like to keep it in, I would suggest straightening out Twilight's hair by wetting and brushing it, curling her tail around one of her back legs and securing it with an elastic, and heat setting this section of her hair by placing her under a lamp or something similar for some time. Note how well the tinsel in her hair behaves and, based on that, decide whether you would be willing to keep the tinsel in or if you would be better off removing it from her mane and tail.

I styled my Twilight but her bangs keep on sticking up I tried wetting the hair and tieing an elastic around but after it dried it poofed back up again. How do I make her hair stay down? and it seems I need to trim her tail a little bit more.

countschlick In reply to Hidden-Mist-Shinobi [2012-12-02 09:27:55 +0000 UTC]
If her hair is not staying down, it usually means that the heat setting isn't working. Regardless of what heat-setting method you are using, you will need to get her hotter.

countschlick In reply to Apencilsmind [2012-11-08 01:20:41 +0000 UTC]
I suggest doing her up as shown in the fourth last picture in the tutorial and performing the heat setting process over again. If her hair isn't hanging close enough to her body, she probably did not get hot enough the first time you dried and fried her.

Here's the progress of taking scissors to a pony for the first time.
Fashion Style Twilight Progress
The fun part about this is that I couldn't find my girly hair products, so I had to be resourceful and use rubberbands and paperclips to get her hair fixed up.
I have a bit more to do, but I'm quite satisfied with how the results turned out so far.

(snipping at a fashion style pony without any experience or the proper tools probably isn't the best thing to do, but I don't have any bait ponies to mess around with. At least it wasn't a disaster. :3)

I was considering that, more so for future projects than previously completed ones. Although I do fear Applejack's tutorial may be the last one I do for a while due to time constraints, I was thinking that it might be easier to make videos of me styling then preparing image tutorials. However, time will tell.

After AJ it's the CMCs of you have time, right? Anyways, AMAZING tutorial, I lovedlovedloved it! My Twilight is right now drying as I'm doing a little more heat setting for the bangs and lower mane-part. The lower mane-part hung a little too far away from the head at first so I put the elastics a little tighter and wet it again. THE CUTTING KILLED ME SERIOUSLY!

It depends on how well they perform in the poll I may or may not post to test which ponies people want styled next. However, given how popular the CMCs are, I'm guessing they'd win it.
