Description BEHOLD! MEIN LATEST CREATION! ZE BEAST; IT LIVES!

Anyway, this monster of a tutorial ended up being about 25% longer than Fluttershy's , and I'll cry if I calculate how much longer it is than my Rarity and Pinkie Pie tutorials. The added length makes a little bit of sense since this is the first tutorial that involves quite a bit of trimming.

Also, I decided I would call the hair on her forehead "bangs", so feel free to laugh endlessly if you've never heard that term before. Somewhat ironically, although I use "bangs" to describe Twilight's forelock-thingy, the term is derived from the word "bangtail", a name for the tail of a horse cut straight across, or the name for the horse itself. So, if you happen to be a time travelling American from the 1860's, struggling to understand the terrifying technology the future has presented to you, this tutorial will probably break whatever is left of your battered mind.

I would also like to thank everyone again for your questions and comments regarding my tutorials, and the support you give me when I'm trampling though my self-assigned due dates like an elephant barging through an unfinished world record domino toppling attempt. I also love seeing the results of other people's styling both here, on deviantART, and in the ponychan thread .

And, of course, My Little Pony, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Twilight Sparkle, Owloysius and the Hasbro toys are all owned by Hasbro.

Anyway, I'm off to go replenish my stock of mana crystals. I've used up so many of them that I cannot even cook myself breakfast in the morning. I've been living off of 'Lucky Charms' and other slightly less magical meals for the past few days.

EDIT: Here are the Rainbow Dash and Applejack tutorials as well!

If her bangs are still sticking up after following my tutorial, you will have to get them hotter. This may require using a different heat setting method. I talk about this a bit in the tutorial beside the last picture of Twilight under the lamp.

Okay. Have a look through my tutorial. It may give you some ideas. I wove her hair and squished it against her face while wet to keep her bangs together. With her hair secured against her face with an elastic, I then dried it under a hot lamp. The heat from the lamp helped set her hair in place, just like a curling iron does for people hair.

Unbeliveable!

Never did I imagine that there was a person who would put so much effort, not only to make these toys look more show-accurate, but even made a tutorial of how to do so!

I tip my hat to you, sir.

Oh! And I don't have a desk lamp, can I use a hair dryer or would that melt the hair? Or can I just leave her out to dry?

countschlick In reply to MeghanMagica [2013-05-26 19:32:27 +0000 UTC]

A hair dryer should work, although be careful not to blow the hair into a mess.

It turned out really well! But her bangs keeps springing up, is there any way to fix that?

countschlick In reply to MeghanMagica [2013-05-27 23:41:49 +0000 UTC]

You may have to heat set her again. The last lamp picture in the tutorial shows my Twilight going under again to get her bangs tamed. Try getting her hair a little hotter than before with your blow dryer.

Okie dokie, thank you ^-^ at the moment she's just sitting on my desk with two tiny rubber bands holding her bangs down. She looks like a hippy. It's kinda cute XD but I don't want her to have to stay that way. Thank you for the help! I really like all your tutorials!

I have a Twilight crystal motion and she is so curly I want to make her bang, will it copes? =[ (your tutorial is so helpful)

countschlick In reply to PinkamenaSonyPie [2013-05-13 04:17:16 +0000 UTC]

It should, although you may have trouble with the tinsel in her hair. You may want to remove it from her hair before or after styling if it looks really bad.

countschlick In reply to naomib1996 [2013-05-10 00:29:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes, although the tinsel in her hair may get a bit messy. You may have to remove it after you style, or during if it creates problems while styling.

How does one 'mush' something? Mush is baby food, or what you tell a sled dog. Is there any better word for that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to kingtiger666 [2013-05-06 22:29:23 +0000 UTC]

Squish would probably work in this context as well. I use 'mush' as defined by the fifth definition here . When writing the tutorial, I was originally going for 'smush', which has the exact meaning I wanted , but when my spell-check complained, I just deleted the 's'. Apparently, 'smush' is informal. Pfft. Whatever. Give 'smush' another 50 years, and it will weasel its way into all of the most sophisticated vernaculars.

I figured it out, but now I have a new problem. Her hair is lifting up, it looks like some pink and purple bird is sitting on her head.

It sounds like you will have to follow the instructions to the right of the last under-the-lamp photo. If that still doesn't work, you will need to get her hair hotter during heat setting, which may require a different heat setting method.

Try using a Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy for reference. (Or you could just leave her wingless. . . )

The Twilight toy I bought only has one row of hair plugs. What do I do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to KanadeViolet [2013-02-09 03:12:37 +0000 UTC]

If they are running vertically from her forehead to her neck, you don't have to worry about weaving the two rows together. Just split the hair in each plug into a right and left half and pull it over her face.

Hey do you have one for Cadence? Or do you just use some if the techniques from the Rarity tutorial?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to IronBatMaiden91 [2013-02-08 15:47:56 +0000 UTC]

I don't have a tutorial for Cadance, but it looks like you would want to combine the techniques of Fluttershy's and Rarity's tutorials to style her mane. If you could curl the ends of her mane and tail around hairpins without straws, and then just follow the Fluttershy tutorial, I think you would end up with something looking Cadance-y.

Well, I suppose you would never know for sure until you tried it. And, the quickest way to get better at something is to practice it. You could gain confidence in your styling skills by styling Pinkie Pie or Rarity over and over again. They don't require trimming, so you can reset their hair style by running it under hot water and brushing it out. Once you can confidently style either of those two ponies, you won't have any difficulty styling Twilight.
