Description
With paintwork reflecting the weak March sunshine, A4 'Sir Nigel Gresley' reverses into London Marylebone station to take a 'Shakespeare' service on March 16, 1986. The 'porthole'Β that let light into the corridor tender for changing crews at speed is clearly visible.Related content

I hope they shut that access hatch for the lubricator before they left Andy?!
Cracking shot of the beauty that is the 100th LNER pacific

Thinking about it they might have wanted to see if the level had settled and top it right up before departure making sure it was full. Even so, it stands out.

Yep that makes sense Ben. Thing is with an A4 anything left open looks so prominent!

I have no idea what drove this aesthetic result, but they sure knew how to please the eye in those days!
Thank you for sharing.

Ty for the info.
I'll read up on him.
His style (which is so unique even I can tell) is one of a kind because he found a way to "modernize" art-deco of sorts if you get what I mean. Truly amazing. Even in the colors.
Cheers & Thanks.

I've always liked how these locos look with BR blue coaching stock.

Yes, not a million miles away from the old LNER 'Coronation' train livery.

It's kind of like the LMS Coronation livery for the lower half and the LNER 'Silver Streak' Coronation sets introduced in the same year.
