Not only is it not recommended and there are notices inside the carriage telling you not to, but also - it spoils my pictures! Thank you for your co-operation. BR Class 4MT 4-6-0 No. 75014 'Braveheart' passes under Oyster Bridge, Saltern Cove, on her way to Kingswear, June 10, 2018.Now this is another case in point. 75014 was nameless in her British Railways service. However, the public must have everything sugar-coated. Every locomotive must have a name (even a tank engine) and every train must have a headboard..... I was pleased to see, though, that this weekend's trains were headboard free!

I've only once put my head out of a train window - I got a VERY close look at a Class 37, and decided never to do that again. And it really annoys me to see people doing to too!
Names and headboards are probably all about advertising these days, so you Google the name and find the website selling rail tours?

Yeah, it is very dangerous as glass are very fragile. I remember I experience one time when my moderate speed commuter travels at 140km/h and a small pebble hit the glass and it shattered, but not crash into pieces, thanks to the thin film tint. The conductor inspect the glass and the train was suspended after it reach its nearest destination.

This isn't possible with most passenger carriages here. Even the ones that do have opening windows.

That style of window was normal on UK stock (except the mk 4 air-conditioned carriages) until the early 1980s.

Yeah it was possible to lean out the windows on older wooden bodied stock but not the steel stock from the 30s on.

It's still a good photo though.
and it does look like the passenger's heads don't fit through the window very well so maybe the operators put the restrictions in place because it makes the train look stupid too XD
