Description
Kicking down the fourth wall, here...In the foreground are characters from the classic fantasy RPG for the PC, Baldur's Gate 2; Imoen, Aerie and Yoshimo, who are spying on/preparing to surprise an enemy.
And in the background something they didn't notice due to a perception filter or some such thing...
I know what you're thinking; you're thinking this picture is crazy. Imoen, Aerie and Yoshimo can't all be in the same party at the same time. But, artistic license, you know?

I also have to say, of the three of them, Aerie would probably make the best companion!

I had to show my brother...he's a big Dr. Who fan and I'm...familiar...with it. We both laughed, and then I said "Okay, I'm favouriting this".

The TARDIS can go anywhere in time and space after all, so it's fun to slip it into the background in various settings.

However the TARDIS could explain how Yoshimo and Immy are in the same picture.

Good point. Guess the Doctor knew they all needed to be working together to prevent a catastrope that could destroy the universe.

I lol'd at this xD Brilliant.
I wouldn't have noticed any inconsistency with having Yoshimo, Aerie and Imoen all in the party at the same time, because Artistic License is a great great thing, and apparently has taken over my mind completely.

I like the guy, so I might get that mod mentioned above just to keep him alive. I think if I get that far into a BG2 fan fiction I might try to find a way to keep him as well.

Of course many other people have written BG2 fanfic as well. IMO, the best Baldur's Gate 2 retelling I've read to date is this one: [link]

Woaaaaah. 104 chapters. Now that really IS a retelling. I must take a look at that at some time.
... Actually, just looking at the first page, I recognise this exactly. I think I've read the first few chapters before. Definitely not the whole thing, but at least my past self had stumbled across the awesome somewhere

Oh my god, that ISNT including the Throne of Bhaal? Hoooooly jeez. That's one long story. I think its safe to assume I'll never get to read it all xD

There are some even longer stories, but like I said I personally consider this one the best, so if you do ever have time to read just one this is the one I recommend

I think I will stick to writing my really short fanfics : P

In general yeah, but then if you have to wrap up a plot, you have to write an ending. Endings are so hard to write D:

I've written quite a few short stories, here [link] , and also on [link] , but that site is down at the moment. Some of it, especially my older stuff, makes me gringe. Children of the Gate is my least favourite... I think because I dumped way too much stuff on Anomen and the dialogue in the last couple of chapters is terrible... I posted a rough version basically, when I should have worked on it a bit longer.
'Twelve Labours of Imoen' I quite like though, even though I haven't finished it yet. And some of the stories under 'Wingless Wonders' I've also started an actual Baldur's Gate 2 story that has Imoen as the main character.

Oh wow, you have so many. I've been a bit bad when it comes to putting things up online because I never really got around to it untill just recently. I definitely know what you mean about older works making you cringe though, my old stuff does that to me as well. At the moment I'm trying to resist the urge to go back and change a story I only finished half a year or so ago. I don't think I will end up resisting it x)
I haven't looked too much into Baldur's Gate fanfics before (there are far too many things to read and never enough time to read them all) so your ones seem exciting. I shall read them next time I sit down for a fic reading session Imoen as the main character sounds badass too.

Coutelier In reply to Pantharya [2010-06-29 22:45:30 +0000 UTC]
Most of them are collections of short stories, and the rest are as yet unfinished longer stories ;D
'The Fail Safe' is the newest one, which is BG2 with Imoen as the main character. Only a couple of chapters in so far, and as in the game it starts out rather depressing with all the horrible events in Chateu Irenicus, but soon it'll become a bit lighter and more fun 'Twelve Labours of Imoen' I'll be doing more of soon too.
But yes, I'm always wanting to change things. I've rewritten 'Star Engine' several times; it's my first original story so I'm determined to get it right. But, I realise now that I might never be able to get it perfect, so... well, comes a point when I have to say that's enough or it will never be finished. I have to start setting myself deadlines, basically.

Pantharya In reply to Coutelier [2010-06-29 23:31:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, you've got it right. Even if you're not a hundred percent happy with it there is a point where you just have to keep going and trust that it'll all work as a whole. Which it does most of the time, because readers see it all in a completely different manner and will often not even pause on all the bits you're unsure of. Writing can be such a tricky thing x) But there you go.
I can understand how you want to get your first original thing as good as it can be as well. I haven't even started any of mine yet, purely out of not wanting to tackle them untill I know I can give them the awesome they deserve. I need a lot more practice before that can happen xD
But yes, I've finally cleared all my inboxes for a while, so I'm gonna go off and have a day completely filled with fanficcery goodness 8D

Oh, I just remembered my story 'Baldur's Gate Heroes', which I wrote a few years ago. It's also got Imoen as the main character but in a more modern day/comic book type of setting. It's also where I had the idea for ELFs
So writing fan fic has helped me in a number of ways, I think

If there isn't, there ought to be one. I'm still looking for a Xzar mod. If I hade even the slightest idea how to make those things, you better believe I would.

Amberite-Chaosian In reply to realityhelix [2010-06-26 00:14:38 +0000 UTC]
There is. It's called Keeping Yoshimo and it's hosted at gibberlings3.net, though it's still in the alpha stage. Hey, at least it works. The megamod Tortured Souls also keeps Yoshimo alive, but it's horribly buggy and incompatible with everything.
The megamod The Darkest Day has a Xzar NPC, but the mod itself is widely regarded as one of the worst mods ever created, and Xzar himself doesn't say a word, unfortunately.

To be honest, I've never written Xzar. I'll no doubt be trying it soon, but I'd have to get used to the way he speaks and spend some time familiarising myself with his background. But I'm sure there must be some fanfic author somewhere who has already devoted a lot of time to him.

I might try it. Be good if you could find out what happened to Tamoko as well... assuming you didn't fight her at the end of BG1. But maybe she could have survived somehow anyway and then brother and sister could be reunited.
