Description
Not only the MS and MB classes got redrawn and renamed, but the MA Class too.Marinus was built in the 1963 by the German Manufactorer, Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG (Or "MAN" for short)
Marinus entered service shortly after, but already from the start, there were a few teething issues, incl. snow in the engine room.
He was given a new fresh coat of paint in 1977, removing the original 1887 DSB Logo.
Only 7 years later, in 1984, he was given another repaint, this time in silver, gaining them their nicknames "Silverarrow" and "Tin Foil Express"
He was withdrawn in 1990, having been replaced by Mads and his siblings, and then transfered to the railway museum.
After having been cold in the small museum in Copenhagen for about a decade, he was sold to the North Western Railway in 2015, after which, he was heavily restored and put back into service.
In 2017, Marinus was being transfered to the Spare fleet (Now the Heritage fleet) as his techincal bits, despite the recent restoration, were difficult to maintain.
He's still being used for heritage journeys, but due to this engine's design, his fuel consumption, and his livery already starting to rust, he's not getting used as much as SIR would like to.
In January 2023, SIR started to plan an Extra Heavy Overhaul and Refurbishment (EHO&R) for Marinus to go through, when he's due for his next service inspection.
