Your first rendition looks good, the dark marks on the body appear to be shadows. Although I like this version very much too, something about it doesn't work. The lighting off maybe? The marks look more like bruising in this make... Perhaps it's from recalling the first work, and my mind has burned that impression into my head...I dunno... This is very nice though.

I agree with you, Linda. On the original ink painting the marks seemed to be ok, but coloured they became too...showy
