Description
A sampler of the different counters pages from the earliest to most recent. I included a couple that actually predate the Berlin Brigade sheet.L to R starting at top:
Row 1
1. First Actual, represents the 221st MP Battalion (Canadian Army) from the UN forces in Korea.
2-3. Examples of other Cold War counters, at this point there was some tinkering around with using color bands in the corner to represent larger commands as well as the first patch use.
4. Notable for being the only one to use the ID Band/Corner lettering to indicate its formation
5. 1st Production Counter: Company A, 1st Airborne Battle Group, 102nd Airborne Division
6. HQ Battery, 605th Field Artillery. On the right of the formation box the HJ stands for Honest John rockets. This placement is exclusive to heavy weapon/artillery units since it indicates the type of weapon the operate. The C and A in the formation box indicate it is capable of firing both Chemical & Atomic ordinance.
7. Generic Blank Counter
ROW 2
1. 2nd Counter: 720th MP Battalion, GHQ SouWesPac. Korea War
2-3. See Row 1.3-4
4. 1st Production line infantry company: Company A, 1st Battle Group, 28th Infantry Division (PANG)
5. Company A, 2nd Armored Battle Group, Combat Command 'B', 27th Armored Division 'Empire' (NYNG): More recent production, but among the first armored counters completed.
6. HQ Battery, 888th Field Artillery, Army Artillery Reserve: This unit operates the Corporal rocket.
7. Generic Artillery Counter
Row 3
1. Battery 'E', 305th Field Artillery, 77nd Infantry Division (AR). This is the mortar battery of a Pentomic Division's artillery battalion.
2. Company B, 462nd Truck Transportation Battalion, 77th Infantry Division (AR).
3. 77th Infantry Division (AR) Headquarters Company
4. Prince William Composite Squadron (VA-102), Virginia Civil Air Patrol Wing.
5. HQ Battery, 110th Searchlight Battalion
6. HQ Battery, 889th Field Artillery, Army Artillery Reserve. They operate 280mm Atomic Annies.
7. Generic A/1st Battle Group
Row 4
1. Prototype State Guard Counter, Pennsylvania State Guard HQ Company. Didn't like how this series turned out, so I decided to alter the production plans. This is now technically useless.
2. Company A, 10th Pennsylvania State Guard Battalion. Technically useless, this was an experiment conducted before I restructured the TOEs of the State Guards to match closer to their World War II structures. The patch is one of my favorites, hands down.
3. 2nd Platoon, 52nd Company 'Goodwynn's Volunteers' (Emporia), 5th Battalion. Conjectured State Guard company from Virginia. 52nd Company was raised in Emporia, VA during World War II at the request of the Guard commander General Goodwynn, who lends his name to my reactivated unit.
4. 1st Platoon, 5th Company 'Nottoway Grays' (Nottoway Courthouse), 5th Battalion. In 1944 the honors and names of several historic Virginia units were transferred from the disbanded 174th Regiment to the State Guard. The 5th Company carries this name among my reactivated units.
5. 2nd Platoon, 84th Company (Roanoke), 8th Battalion. Among the most accurate of my units, the actual 84th Company was raised in Roanoke during World War II and was part of the 8th Battalion.
6. 6th Platoon, Special Military Police Unit, Maryland State Guard. Created as a quick reaction force, the SMPU could respond to emergencies State wide very quickly.
7. 2nd Platoon, 116th Company, Convoy Battalion. Consisting of trained volunteer drivers, this unit provides a rapid movement element for the VASG.
