Description This is the first of the realistic pokemon I ever actually finished. This was back before I changed my vision of Bulbasaur into a giant Cane Toad, and he still had "Archosaur-esque" build. Charmander is basically a Dromeosaurid clone, and Squirtle is an anthropomorphized turtle.

In either case, this is the unaltered scan.

Additionally, the intellectual property of Pokemon and its related derivations and subsidiaries is property of Nintendo and Game Freak. I'm just a fan, and I didn't come up with the idea.

I might use this image if I ever get around to hosting Pokemon Tabletop. "Okay guys, this isn't the games you are used to, but the general idea is the same. So . . . which of these guys do you pick?"

I am one of the world's biggest fans of Gojira, actually. I plan on doing a reboot of him too.

Your attention to detail yet again astounds me, particularly with the scales on the charmander and the spots on the squirtle, although i'd have to say Bulbasaur is my favorite here, he looks the cutest

Thanks! Although, I have to defer on the cute part. When I choose elemental monsters to fight each other, I want utility. With utility, you should take into account the fear factor. While Charmander is all dino-like here, it's the cold, unforgiving eyes of Bulbasaur that hook me in. Alien. Unfeeling... Wrapping you with its tentacles and seeds and slowly bleeding out its prey...

Velociraptor, I choose you!

Okay just one comment. Due to the fact that Squirtle is bipedal you must keep in mind that its hind legs have to be able to support the weight of the rest of the body. Which means that they would have to be stronger than the average turtle's hind legs. Consider, for example, how heavy that shell probably is and how much strength it takes to lug is around.

Crackdtoothgrin In reply to Tryrei [2011-03-02 18:20:13 +0000 UTC]

Hence the length and size of the tail, to counter-balance the shell. Also, my incarnation is not entirely bipedal. partially bipedal. That, and the shell would be shallow and thin because of its age. It would harden and deepen as it got older and evolved.

In all honesty though, this was a quick drawing and the first one I did of the whole 'realistic PokeMon' concept. The thought-process behind it was made up on the spot, haha. Whenever I get to colored, digital versions, I'll definitely have had a few more hours of planning in for it.

I see your point. The tail would indeed help.

It's still an amazing drawing. Very well done.

They all look great although I would of stuck with the salamander/Lizard Approach for Charmander. I just cant get past that tail.
Bulbasaur and Squirtle are spot on amazing! xoxo

But, thanks for the vote of confidence in the work thus presented. It's much appreciated.

Thanks, haha. I strayed away from the "Salamander Approach" when I made this one. This was also the first one of these that I did.

Thanks! This was the first one that I did (although not the first uploaded), and the design for all three has changed significantly since then. Well, not Squirtle so much. My idea for him is still largely the same.

Wow! So much detail! I especially like squirtle, as it's hard to visualize an upright turtle that still looks well-balanced. His tail is cool.

Charmander looks like it could mess you up.

And I'll admit freely that I prefer archosaur!Bulba to amphibian!Bulba.

Crackdtoothgrin In reply to shadow-wasser [2010-09-30 22:47:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I originally was working on a version of the ninja turtles and got sidetracked, but the overall design philosophy stayed the same. The Charmander I think needs some work, particularly with the orientation of the hands.

And I still prefer the amphibian Bulbasaur.
