OPINIONS:I do not think Sombra fits with the other High-Class-Villains (i.e the two-parter-villains). Moony, Chrissie and Discord were intelligent villains, who had an overarching plan, while Sombra was just a brute and did not seem intelligent at all.
As an average villain, he was effective and scary, though, but not on the same kind of level as the others.

I dont see the problem. They all got blasted by a rainbow beam and defeated, but Sombra didn't exactly stand still for it, unlike the rest.

Well I wouldn't call him a BAD villain. A little out of place in the MLP universe and I understand the objection to him being a brute compared to the others but almost every good cartoon needs at least one brutish villain in it. Just one villain that just thrives on power instead of brains to get his goals. I wouldn't call that bad. But all the same it's still a good pic.

why the hate agaisnt sombra? he was a unicorn dictator,not a godlike alicorn,draconequs ,what if they dont get the crystal heart at time? forget about how he blocked shining armors magic? the whole plot was a coounterclock race to get that bucking heart,he was a good villain ,just not the most remarkable thing on the episode

Nightmare Moon had just about as much evil plan as Sombra did. Her evil plan is litterally "cover Equestria in darkness then run the hell away from my enemies".
Chrysalis had an interesting plan, which could have worked had she not been a complete and total moron. She made retarded mistakes every single step of the way. I'll take a villain who is "just a brute" any day of the week over a villain who tries to be a mastermind but fails at it utterly.
Discord is AWESOME in his own way. But in a completely different way from Sombra. Discord was a large ham of a trickster villain with just a slight underlying sinisterness, Sombra was an outright nightmarish evil, looming presence. He's more of a "horror-type" villain, as in less of a "character" and more of a "looming evil force". While it does allegedly make him "more plot device than character", this is in no way bad in my opinion.

I honestly wouldn't call him stupid, either... I felt like his so-called simplistic lines were due to 1) not being as theatric as the other villains, 2) perhaps some madness setting in after 1000 years and 3) having lost his grip on language (again due to a millenium in complete silence).
He protected the Crystal Heart as best he could, at least. His goal was to reclaim his Empire, and he did everything within his power to do it, but he was ever so slightly outmatched by the protagonists. I don't think he actually made any dumb mistakes, unlike Queen Chrysalis, who fucked up every single step of her plan and it's a wonder she even got as far as she did.

I kinda wish its trixie on the right and not Sombra, But we'll see in the episode Magic Duel what she's capable of.
'Intelligent'? Then why let themselves get defeated? and Discord, he just sat on his throne, Chrysalis, she underestimated them,I'm not trying to defend Sombra or anything, i'm still disappointed that he didn't talk much, but every villains is different in their own ways, Sombra does have plans, what about the doors and the stairs? What makes him not seem intelligent?

in my head, Trixie is a mid-level-villain, like Gilda or the Flim Flam Brothers, and sombra wants to be "in" with the "in-crowd", since he is a 2-parter-villain as well.
He does not seem intelligent because he always goes "raaa crystals raaaa" and doesn't really do anything else. It doesn't neccessarily have to be him who set up all those traps, btw.
Even if so, I don't like his design, I don't like the fact he had no lines at all, that he had no motivation instead of raaa crystals and he just does not fit in with the other villains imo.

So he doesn't speak much, that doesn't make him less intelligent than the rest of the three, he put a curse on the empire, set up a door that led to the heroes worst fears, and he didn't just sit around and let himself get defeated, of course he couldn't come near to the Empire because of Cadence's love shield, and if he's not the one who set up those traps then who did it?
disappointed much? I bet a lot of us hoped that he'd be a lot like Discord, well wouldn't that just be boring? I really dislike Sombra at first, but he is actually growing on me.
well, not gonna waste my time on this, your reason for him being 'not good enough' is really....well, 'Eh'
I like him just as much as the other "High-Class-Villains"
