OPINIONS:I do not think Sombra fits with the other High-Class-Villains (i.e the two-parter-villains). Moony, Chrissie and Discord were intelligent villains, who had an overarching plan, while Sombra was just a brute and did not seem intelligent at all.
As an average villain, he was effective and scary, though, but not on the same kind of level as the others.

I just really don't like his design, as someone who always has a bunch of "draw my oc lol" requests in his inbox, i gotta say he looks a lot like them, and I don't think he fits in with the other villains, which is all I have said. As an average villain, he is good. He is nothing complex, nothing all that special, since they did not gave us anything that was really special about him. They could've made a kickass backstory, like jitters is already doing and I would be happy. I don't really know nothing about him, except that he is mad for crystals.
I did not expect him to be discord, I expected nothing. They tried out a new thing, I don't like it and I expressed my opinion through a funny picture. Even if he was intelligent as shit, a genius among ponies, his form in which the pones met him was just a brute, who's plan was "attack shield until shield go down".
To be fair, I liked his traps. They were all about fear and demoralisation. He had one job, being scary, and he did that.

i wouln'd say he wasn't intelligent. He put up all these traps to hide the crystal heart and prevent anyone from finding it. also he was able to curse the empire before he was banished and all that i guess requires skill besides strength...and about the lines issue that most people complain i believe he talked so little cause he had become shadows and all... i found it quite chilly personally.

I feel bad for Sombra... but your right... he could have had more of a deeper plot to his deeds...
Now I wouldn't say he wasn't intelligent... but his goal wasn't as vast as the other villains...

Yeah, I wrote that at 2 in the morning. I don't know if I should change the text, because new people will arrive, won't read the comments and just comment away, telling me how wrong i was.
He did not seem intelligent imo, he was all "raa crystals" and that was it. The traps did not have to be his plan, could've been a servant or something.. the ancient egyptian pharaos did not set their own traps, neither...
Doesn't change the fact that he wouldn't fit in with the other intelligent and narcisstic villains.

All of the villains had a potential to be much more dangerous, but it being a children's show there is a limit to just how much evil they can be...
'Moony' came really close to getting rid of Celestia and obtaining the throne, plus making daylight disappear forever. But she didn't show any cruelty or whatsoever. Now Discord showed some cruelty through sadism, getting a kick out of manipulating ponies. Also he's an immortal prescence being the spirit of chaos. Chrysalis and her changelings were parasitic hazards threatening to turning all the ponies into their food-whatever that means.
Sombra? Although he appeared as a terrifying tyrant that chained up an entire race of ponies and as Celestia showed Twilight, had the potential of affecting all of Equestria with his cruelty, after a thousand years he was just a shadow. He never got the chance to really get on the throne and get some chaos going on like the other three villains did.
That or he didn't have enough dialogue. Eh.

I just think he could've been given a kickass backstory, like what Jitterbug is doing right now.. he is basically writing sombra as this ice-king-esque guy who gets taken over by the dark magic, what Twilight and Celly used as well.
We know less of him than about any other villain. He just doesn't fit imo, which is what I wanted to say with this picture.

I watched the premiere again (totally worth it) and I must agree. I was expecting his character become more complex towards the climax of the story, but he remained as the generic evil unicorn king to his death. Quite a shame.

Chrysalis is my favorite villain out of the four, by the way. She's sexy.

Sombra was more of an everlooming threat than a villain. Yes, he was evil and quite possibly one of the most magically potent villains seen as NMM and Discord are both naturally powerful magical beings, while he was just a unicorn. Where NMM merely tried to trick the elements into running away, Discord destroyed their friendship, and Chrysalis let Cadance get to Shining, Sombra set traps up for whoever tried to get the Heart. First you have to use his Dark Magic to get open the staircase. Then a trap shows you your worst nightmare after you use his dark magic to 'open the door' like you did with the stairs. THEN after a demoralizingly long flight of stairs is the Heart, just sitting there. Then the final trap is revealed, trapping you inside those magic crystals, with the Heart either by your side or just out of reach. Which of the other villains did anything to actually stop them since in Equestria friendship prevails if the friends are still alive? Yes, he only growled a few lines, but which of the villains were able to make ponies cower and remain amnesiac at the mere mention of their name?

Huh. Seems everyone's mad that Sombra didn't find the need - nay, necessity - to waste breath on his victims. Not all villains are at least 50% chatter, you know.
And he DID have the foresight to conquer the Crystal Empire, hide the Crystal Heart in a place that virtually nopony would think of looking, even set a trap in the off-chance that somepony DOES reach the Heart. Hell, he made the empire vanish from time and space for a thousand years so none of the inhabitants would have it figured by the time he returned.

Well from what I have heard, they focused more and developed their current characters than making a new one which is King Sombra, I am guessing he was just there to fill in the holes while the others were given more screentime or development, but he still awesome so give him some slack >3<
