Description
Here are the elevation sketches of the king pieces for a planed MLP chess set I intend to sculpt.(top left is a standard Staunton king piece for comparison) Would people be interested in seeing a full set? I shall pan out pieces before sculpting.After finishing this piece:[link] I started thinking about an entire set (thank you MrCropper and ApocalipticMike for the ideas for the pawns).
Feed back would be helpful for this project. What do you think about open/closed eyes, which ponies should have their eyes open or closed?

Maybe instead of Nightmare Moon, you could use Queen Chrysalis? Or Sombra instead of Discord?

I am making the actual set now, although work has been very slow of late because of exams. The Celestia prototype is almost finished.

I'm currently sculpting Celestia (WIPs on my tumblr). It may take a while to finish every piece, I'm trying to make them of good enough quality to be cast in resin.
So if people are interested I might make the completed chessmen available to buy.

Having both NMM and Luna is GOOD. And having NMM as the more directly powerful peice, with Celestia as the players personal avatar works well, since NMM won the Lunar rebellion compared to Celestia-"I break master plans by sending a bunch of letters" Chess-mistress.

Not surprising many have thought about a MLP chess set and the white pieces fit very nicely. I'm also thinking of including Guilda and Trixie on the black side as well.

That's a great set when I read this, however, I prefer Cockatrice & Dragons to swap places, because the answer is simple, dragons are huge creatures! They deserve the rook position.

Ahuizotl's design is interesting but I don't think he would really fit unless I was to make a Daring-Do chessmen as well.
The weird floating pony from 'The Return of Harmony' is not explicitly a villain more a victim of Discord's chaos. It could work i I was gearing the set around those two episodes but I'm wanting it to be a more general set featuring characters from a wide range of episodes.

The manticore is quite a good idea and would make sense if I were to include Nightmaremoon.
The characters which I'm considering for the black chess men are mainly those who are listed by the MLP wiki [link] as 'Antagonists' and "wild life' (creatures which feasibly could be use by antagonists against the mane six) initially I thought most the black chessmen, save the king and queen, would be 'wildlife' but with new antagonists/villains like the Flim Flam brothers and Ahuizotl that I have since changed my mind. There is also the possibility of new characters appearing in later episodes.
I also think it may be best to include creatures and characters whose designs are more unique to MLP.

love the chess pieces. i don't want to tell you how to do this but if i was to make this i make diamond dogs the black pawns and the knights Gilda, Trixie, or flim and flam

Thank you. Any input is really useful and much appreciated. A problem with many of the antagonists is that their numbers do not often fit in a chess set(although it doesn't rule them out) ,lone characters (like Gilda or Trixie) either need to be the king/queen or be duplicated and there are three distinct diamond dogs but eight black pawns so one can't even duplicate them to fit evenly. Flim and Flam would work quite well being in a pair.
But many pieces are liable to change (especially the black chessmen) and I would very much like to here what everyone thinks would work best.

well there where the diamond dog that did say anything in the armor i think they would fit nice vs the white see they are both in suit of armor

They fit nicely because of their relative stature but for pawns one would need three Scootaloos, three Apple Blooms and two Sweetie Belles(or some combination of that sort).
Also I don't think I could bring my self to use them as bait for the black chessmen.

Well, there is a new monster out The Timber-wolves. Do you have any ideas for them?

They design was pretty nifty. It's possible that they would work well as bishops.I may just do them separately (possibly with other notable character who won't feature in the main set.)

Have you thought about putting The Shadowbolts somewhere on the black side? Not really a Discord thing but they fit well with Nightmare Moon.

I did consider it but I think I will have it so that all of the black pieces are from different episodes. Although it may be fun to make one or two once the main set is complete.

I wonder if there would be Kingside Pawns (Day Guards) and Queenside Pawns (Night Guards) on the White Field?
