Description This was a piece following the inspiration of Avatar depicting a floating island tethered to the ground by huge vines - which also act as a bridge to the islands themselves. These access vines have monument gateways.

Many different assets came together for this image and the full list can be found here [link]

The creation of the island was through the use of Hyper Terrains although, as I've not got the top of the island in view, I could have just used an inverted terrain for this. The exposed roots under it were thanks to several leafless upside down trees and lots of hanging moss added to them as well.

Thanks for looking and I hope you like it!

Thanks

Strata is one of the original 3D apps from many years ago. Lightwave overshadowed it at the time (thanks to Lightwave being use on the TV series Babylon 5) and it's been in the wings ever since - never the best app or the cheapest app so it's not been in anyone's spotlight (although it is the best at it's price range - but that's not as good as being the Best one ever or the cheapest).

It is, however, very easy to use and it's current comprehensive integration with Adobe's CS4 suite may pull it out of obscurity.

...but a lot of that integration is aimed at the product & product packaging niche markets.

It's here www.strata.com - [link]

Here endith the history lesson.

Have you managed to see it yet? You'll soon see why so many people are being inspired to create those sorts of images!

Oh yes - you must hurry if you're going to be subliminally forced to create lots of floating islands!

Guaranteed you'll be kicking yourself that you missed it on the big screen.

...unless you have blue-ray.

It's a visual feat for the eyes!

Great piece! Love the rock details and roots. The roots really sell it.

Thanks - I wanted to get more detailed on the underside of these floating islands. I'm very pleased with the rocks & roots as well as the overall shape of them.

One of my favourite element of it are the vines tethering them to the ground covered in dank hanging moss - I did go mad on moss application.
