I would really appreciate it if you read my whole description of this, so that it makes sense. Please and thanks.

When I first got the idea to draw something based on this quote, first of all I knew it had been done before. My initial idea was to do it in a joking way, like "Haha, women don't need men, but they get together anyway. Fish and bicycles don't, but wouldn't that be funny?"

But as the idea grew, I thought a little bit more about what Irina Dunn's quote meant to me. I certainly don't need men. As a lesbian, I don't even need one in order to have a relationship. However, there are men in my life whom I love and respect, without whom I'd be very sad. My dad and two of my best friends are just a few I can name.

In conclusion, no, I don't need men in my life. They're not the end-all, be-all. I can swim just fine without them. But the ones I know have helped me to see the world outside of the water, to reach new heights, to be more than just a fish. So this picture is dedicated to the men in my life who have been there for me and helped me, and continue to do so.
