Description
Hello, and welcome to another episode of “I’m Making a Family for a Minor Character and You Can’t Stop Me”. Today, I’m going to be covering Mudbriar, the boyfriend of Maud Pie who has a love for sticks (does that translate to trees in general?), and has a need to be technical all the time.
Now, in a strange reverse situation of what happened with Cheese Sandwich that led to Tomato Sandwich, I ended up viewing Mudbriar as being a younger brother. I’m not entirely sure what it is, but I’m rolling with it.
The big brother’s name is Woodbury. He’s an athletic social butterfly who prefers dirty, hooves-on tasks–sort of like the “muscle” to Mud’s “mind”.He’s loud and proud and kinda sarcastic, but he’s got a way of making a sport out of anything (even his eventual talent of being a landscaper) and making everyone feel welcome. He and Mud are not particularly close, but even if he finds Mud frustrating, Wood does care enough to tolerate his quirks, try to read him (with varying levels of success), and defend him if somepony says something mean about his little bro. They also both know a fair bit about wood, so they can connect sometimes.
Their father, Carver Wenge, is the reason why the boys have knowledge on wood and trees; being a sturdy woodworker, he’s a stallion of few words, but he makes his words precise and to the point so that anypony could understand what he’s getting at. He’s usually very tolerant, but push him to the brink and he’ll chase you across town with a hammer.
Their mother, Silty Loam, is a talkative soil scientist who can be a bit scatterbrained. Unlike other mothers who fuss about their foals getting clean, she outright encourages them to get dirty and toughen up their bodies and immune systems. She’ll go on tangents about how “this kind of dirt is the best for gardening and here’s why”, and similar subjects. The members of the gardening club she’s a part of have grown used to it. She’s also really expressive and affectionate, so neither Wood or Mud ever wonder if she loves them (though sometimes she babies Mud and it annoys him).
For all that delight him, annoy him, or just don’t interest him about them, Mudbriar does love and appreciate his family.

Well, I have it in my head that they're from a town called Gallop Pines. Still trying to work out just where that is.
